This position is located at the St. Joseph County VA Clinic under the Supervisory Health System Specialist. This position exists to provide internal and external customers with resources and way finding from point of entry to destination in a timely, accurate, courteous, and professional manner. Serves as the primary information source for hospital staff in main entrances.
Duties
This position is located at the St. Joseph County VA Clinic under the Supervisory Health System Specialist. The position has a direct impact on promoting personalized, proactive, patient driven care and will work closely with both the administrative as well as clinical staff to ensure this philosophy is shared throughout the health care system. Due to the nature of the position, the incumbent must possess a very open, positive and customer orientated attitude to facility interactions between patients, their families and staff, both inside and outside, of the health care system.

Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-04 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-03. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment.
You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below:
General Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-03 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: knowledge and skill in the use of computer software programs equivalent to Microsoft Excel, Outlook, Word, etc; provides information and assists with problem-solving about the organization, its function, activities, and personnel; explains a variety of government laws, directives, and policies to individuals of varying levels of educational and cultural backgrounds; greets visitors and responds to questions and requests for information or assistance; make appropriate and precise messages and then routing them to the proper personnel using the provided tools (IM, Telephone, PATS, or Message Manager); develops and keeps a file of brochures, information handouts, common Q & A materials, transportation schedules, etc; knowledge of general methods, contacts and controls of personnel, public safety, or rules, regulations, precautions, and prevention techniques for the protection of people, data, or property; responsible for assuring that lost and found items are logged and taken to the clothing room for inventory in a timely manner.

Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have successfully completed (2) years education above the high school level in any field for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite is creditable. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. One-year of full-time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university, or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business, secretarial, or technical school. Equivalent combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and experience. This experience must have equipped you with the qualifications to perform the major duties of this position as described above.

Physical Requirements: The work is sedentary; the employee may sit comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some carrying of light items such as papers, books, or small parts. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.
