About the Position: Serves as the USARCENT Industrial Hygiene consultant and subject matter expert assigned to the Safety Directorate, duty station Shaw AFB, SC.
This position is being filled as a term position not to exceed 2 years, may be extended up to six years, and may be converted to permanent without further competition.
This term position may be terminated earlier than the NTE date at management's discretion.
Duties
Serves as the USARCENT Industrial Hygiene consultant and subject matter expert assigned to the Safety Directorate, duty station Shaw AFB, SC.
Advises senior leadership on industrial hygiene matter that affect personnel, mission effectiveness, and on legislative and regulatory issues that could impact resources and productivity.
Responsible for monitoring occupational safety and health regulatory requirements and compliance in abatement efforts, base modernization initiatives, and long and near-term equipment and facility upgrades.
Direct the work of subordinates with consideration of external deadlines, staff competencies and professional growth opportunities.
Monitor performance and production of subordinates via feedback and reviews.
Assure compliance with all applicable safety and security regulations.
Represents USARCENT at Army and Department of Defense (DoD).
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Secret security clearance required.
- One-year supervisory probation may be required.
- One-year term trial period may be required.
- 50% temporary duty travel required.

- Incumbent may be required to work nights, weekends, holidays, and/or irregular duty hours or be on call commensurate with mission.

If a current, permanent ARCENT employee: Upon termination or expiration of the term position, the employee will be returned to previously held permanent position or one comparable to one vacated (i.e. same series, grade, pay and duty location).
If not a current, permanent ARCENT employee: Upon termination or expiration of the term position the employee may be responsible for securing permanent employment - placement rights back to former permanent position will be negotiated but are NOT GUARANTEED and at the losing and gaining organization's discretion.

Basic Requirement:
A. I have a bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree in industrial hygiene, occupational health sciences, occupational and environmental health, toxicology, safety sciences, or a related science. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)
OR
B. I have a bachelor's degree in a branch of engineering, physical science, or life science that included 12 semester hours in chemistry, including organic chemistry, and 18 additional semester hours of courses in any combination of chemistry, physics, engineering, health physics, environmental health, biostatistics, biology, physiology, toxicology, epidemiology, or industrial hygiene. Courses in the history or teaching of chemistry are not acceptable. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)
OR
C. I have a Certification from the American Board of Industrial Hygiene (ABIH). (Note: You must attach a copy of this Certification.)
In addition to the basic requirement above, applicant must meet the following:
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes (1) Managing an Industrial Hygiene/Occupational Safety and Health program responsible for business practices, program implementation, and policy development. (2) Overseeing studies and assessments addressing a wide variety of complex industrial hygiene program development, maintenance, and execution requirements; and (3) Performing the full range of supervisory duties. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-13).
