This position is located in the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), Veterans Health Administration (VHA), Mid Atlantic Health Care Network (VISN 6), Salem VA Medical Center (V AMC). Serves in Customer Service with primary duties and responsibilities established to support facility-wide customer service initiatives. The position is within the Customer Service and Community Affairs Service which reports directly to the Executive Director.

Duties

Guest Relations and Patient Assistance: Provides Veterans/patients, their families and visitors with staff who can respond quickly to inquiries, identify problems, and improve the experience of those visiting the campus. Responds to immediate customer needs including navigation, direction, and information assistance. Provides personal assistance to those who do not know how to access medical center programs and/or services. Serves as the initial and the final point of contact for guests entering and leaving the facility. Receives, greets and direct callers over the telephone and in person with precise, clear instructions. Provides information about the organization, its functions, and activities. Takes accurate messages and ensures their delivery to support a responsive culture to the customer. Provides personal wayfinding assistance and often takes Veterans and visitors to locations when they have difficulties with instructions provided. Administrative: Performs work of general office support which encompasses a variety of different administrative duties and responsibilities and supports Patient Advocates and the MyHealtheVet Coordinator with data collection, data entry, and program management. Enters work orders for lobby area. Updates reference guides for volunteers and ambassadors. Orders reproduction requests or forms needed for the work assigned and for public use. Requests for urgent housekeeping needs. Supports large activities/events for patient/employee or public attendance. Performs other duties as assigned. Work Schedule: 7:00am-3:30pm, 7:45am-4:30pm- tours of duty may vary on occasion to assist with larger events (on or off station), coverage of other staff members in other sections or occasional travel to conferences or VA clinics. To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 11/20/2023. You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below: Specialized Experience: You must have/possess at least one year of general experience working in a progressively responsible clerical, office or other work environment which would have enabled you to acquire the particular knowledge, skills and abilities needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled. OR, Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this position at this grade level you must have successfully completed (2) years of education above the high school level in any field. OR, Combination: Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. You must have a combination of general experience and education beyond the high school level, which meets the total experience requirements for this position at the GS-4 level. Physical Requirements: Stand and walk for prolonged periods of time along with sitting at computer for extended periods of time to perform work. The incumbent may be required to push a patient in a wheelchair, bend or kneel to obtain information or assist patients. If wheelchairs are unavailable at the point of entry, may be asked to assist in rounding up chairs for patient use and sanitizing chairs per established protocols (typically using approved sanitation wipes between patient use or similar product provided by the facility).
