The primary purpose of this position is to serve as the Eglin AFB School Liaison Officer to promote, coordinate, and improve education policies, programs, standards, activities, and opportunities for military dependent children in accordance with National, DoD, Air Force and AFMC policies and objectives.
Duties
1. Establishes, implements, and coordinates all local school liaison administrative and operational policies and procedures.
2. Acts as the primary advisor to the Wing Commander and principal staff in all matters relating to schools.
3. Functions as an intermediary and advocate between parents and school administrators and Airman and Family Readiness programs..
4.Briefs local school officials on base programs, policies and activities.
5. Performs a variety of administrative duties related to the school liaison program..
Requirements
- Must possess unquestionable integrity; must be able to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Personnel data to which the incumbent has access are controlled by the Privacy Act of 1974 and must be safeguarded appropriately
- The work may require the employee to drive a motor vehicle. An appropriate, valid driver's license may be required for this position.
- This position requires a positive education (BA/BS or equivalent) in Education, Guidance, Counseling or other closely related subject matter.

- This is a Term position NTE 2 years with the potential to convert to permanent position

BASIC REQUIREMENT OR INDIVIDUAL OCCUPATIONAL REQUIREMENT:
Degree: that included or was supplemented by major study in education or in a subject-matter field appropriate to the position such as child development, early childhood education, special education, etc.
or
Combination of education and experience -- courses equivalent to a major in education, or in a subject-matter field appropriate to the position, plus appropriate experience or additional course work that provided knowledge comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of the 4-year course of study described above.
In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one year (52 weeks) of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-11, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes I have or will have within 120 days of closing of this announcement one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service which includes extensive technical knowledge of child development and family child care family systems and family member needs, and related medical, fire safety, health and sanitation, and food service and nutrition information and skills in applying this knowledge to the design and planning for both established and new methods, approaches, or procedures for difficult and complex projects; and extensive knowledge of child care, family child care, training and curriculum specialist practices and procedures to enable the establishment of program and policy goals and the structure and processes necessary to implement the mission and strategic vision. I meet the basic education requirements for the GS-1701-12

FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-11 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-12 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
Professional knowledge of education theories, principles, procedures and practices.
Knowledge and ability of evaluative techniques to determine the effectiveness and the efficiency of the primary and secondary education programs and projects.
Knowledge of the practices, theories, techniques and methodology of primary and secondary education programs to ensure educational soundness, program success and effective use of education resources.
Knowledge of policies and regulations governing the operations of public systems and applicable Air Force regulations.
Knowledge of counseling and interviewing theories and techniques and ability to use those theories and techniques to gather education and personal information in order to counsel individuals regarding primary and secondary education needs/opportunities.
Skills integrating and coordinating program needs with available resources and with existing policies and regulations.
Skill in coordinating with the variety of regulatory, enforcement and other agencies and developing recommendations to assist parents, school districts and military leadership with developing policies and resolving issues.
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
