About the Position: This position is with the Provost Marshal Office (PMO), Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center (CRDAMC) located on Fort Hood, Texas.
Competition for Security Guard positions is restricted by law to persons entitled to veterans' preference as long as such applicants are available for appointment.
Duties
Responsible for conducting both internal and external patrols of the hospital, satellite clinics, parking lots, and grounds.
Monitor personnel access into restricted areas (e.g., pharmacy, warehouses, etc.) and intrusion detection system alarms using both manual and electronic methods (i.e., Electronic Access Control Systems (EACS)/Intrusion Detection System (IDS)).
Perform duties at static and roving positions to direct patients, visitors, vendors, and contractors to the appropriate medical center office, ward,or clinic as needed.
Maintain vigilance against acts terrorism, sabotage, espionage, theft, violence, and infractions of rules.
Serve as a medical officer point of contact for the emergency notification system which include receiving all emergency notifications and determining the appropriate action.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
- Incumbent will be required to maintain physical conditioning and pass an annual Physical Agility Test (PAT) as outlined in Army Regulation (AR) 190-56.
- Incumbent must be proficient in the use of assigned firearms/weapons, pass an initial qualification, and must qualify semi-annually thereafter in the use of assigned firearms/weapons.
- Incumbent must wear the prescribed Department of the Army Security Guard uniform IAW AR 190-56. Must maintain a high state of appearance and hygiene.
- This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.
- Incumbent must successfully complete security guard training.
- This position requires certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation with Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) training.
- Incumbent may be required to wear chemical protection masks, gloves, and other protective equipment, and may be required to be certified in the use of aerosol irritants and baton.
- The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
- This position has been designated "Mission Essential". In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
- This position is subject to the provisions of the Domestic Violence Offender Gun Ban commonly referred to as the Lautenberg Amendment.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Incumbent must undergo and pass annual medical exams of physical, emotional, and mental stability.
- This is a drug testing designated position. Incumbent agrees to submit to a mandatory command directed urinalysis on a recurring basis IAW AR 600-85.
- Immunization screening is required.
- This position is Inclement Weather Essential. This means that you must be willing to make every attempt to report for duty on time and/or remain on duty during severe weather conditions.
- This position may have specific initial background investigation and periodic re-verification requirements since its duties interaction with children and youth under the age of eighteen (18) years of age on a regular basis.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes providing armed guard services for the protection of life (employees, visitors, patients, etc.) and government property; patrolling facilities, property, and perimeters motorized or on foot; writing incidents reports and findings regarding an incident; responding to a variety of alarms in the facility; performing access control and using physical access control equipment. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).
Some Federal positions allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this position, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone -- no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
