Under the supervision of the Veterans Service Center Manager (VSCM) the Contact Representative performs administrative duties in support of the public contact team in Reno and the Las Vegas Out-Based Office.

Duties
Major duties include:
Greets all visitors to the public contact area of the regional office
Checks visitors into the queue and monitors wait times
Manages lobby area to ensure all visitors are attended to and routed to the appropriate contact
Provides information relating to basic eligibility requirements of all Veterans benefits
Determines eligibility and prepares various entitlement letters and correspondence
Explains VA benefit programs and entitlement criteria to Veterans and their dependents
Assists the claimant with eBenefits, and the completion of applications and forms
Provides general information relating to other federal, state, and municipal agencies.
Utilizes various computer applications to include Microsoft office programs to provide administrative assistance when necessary.
Promotion Potential: The selectee may be promoted to the full performance level without further competition when all regulatory, qualification, and performance requirements are met. Selection at a lower grade level does not guarantee promotion to the full performance level. The grade progression for this position is GS-06, GS-07.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, .
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement.
For a GS-06 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-05.
For a GS-07 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-06.
The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials.
If you are a current VBA employee requesting a reassignment or change to lower grade via this vacancy announcement, you must currently hold the GS-06 or GS-07 (or higher) and the promotion potential of your current position must be at least GS-07.

You may qualify based on your experience as described below:
Specialized Experience:
GS-06 level: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-05 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Specialized experience is defined as experience responding to requests from individuals of all educational backgrounds and providing information both orally and in writing. This experience must also demonstrate the ability to research multiple databases in order to obtain necessary information.
GS-07 level: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-06 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. In addition to the experience at the GS6 level, specialized experience is defined as applied knowledge of state, federal and local benefit programs in order to assist customers with benefits questions and preparation of applications and/or forms.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.
Physical Requirements: The work normally involves mental rather than physical exertion. The work is mostly sedentary; however, there may be some walking, standing, and carrying of light items.
