The primary purpose of this position, Machine Tool Operator, WG-3414-12, is as a premium level journeyman, to machine one-of a-kind mechanical parts and components to facilitate research and development programs for prototype munitions, aircraft and/or components and test evaluating equipment.
Duty Title: Mechanist
Duties
Machine one-of-a-kind parts and components used for Research and Development of; aerodynamic models, rocket sleds, aero-ballistic projectile and aircraft test components used for hypersonic test track evaluation.
With assignment information from supervision and/or project management personnel, work with minimal supervision to machining test article parts and components by setting up, programming and operating a variety of devises.
Conduct training for/from Model Makers, Machinist and other tradesmen on equipment, project processes to maintain technical requirement, safety and timeline constraints of assigned projects.
Maintain compliance with Air Force programs such as safety and HAZMAT.
Skill and ability in assembly methods, fit, form, and functional operation of model assemblies and components, test support equipment and test articles.

Qualifications
In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C.
QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-3400 Machine Tool Work Family. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.
The screen out element for this position is Ability to Do the Work of the Position Without More Than Normal Supervision.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The work requires standing, stooping, bending, and reaching. Frequently handles, lifts, and carries objects weighing up to 40 pounds, and occasionally lifts and moves heavier items with assistance.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed inside and outside in areas that are usually hot, dusty, noisy and dirty, and where there is constant danger to the skin and eyes from flying metal chips and abrasive particles; skin irritation from contact with coolants, lubricants, and abrasive compounds; and danger to fingers, hands, and other body parts from cutting tools, grinding wheels, rotating pieces, and moving parts of machines.
