This is a term appointment not to exceed 13 months with possible extensions up to a total of 4 years without further competition. Appointment to this position will not convey permanent status in the Federal service.

Duties

Provide general information concerning office operations to the public both orally and in writing. Contacts may occur through telephone, email, and in person. Respond to inquiries directly or refer individual to the appropriate staff member. Staff front desk of a receiving office. Serve as collections officer. Prepare appropriate receipts, records and tracking forms. Deposit money in strict accordance with Department of Treasury instructions. Reconcile accounts receivable, aging analysis reports, and suspense and unearned accounts. Transfer funds from one account to another by initiating journal vouchers or other transfer instruments. Process refunds and track the status of trespass register and contributed funds. Process daily incoming and out-going mail, including material transmitted electronically. Date, route stamp, and deliver incoming mail; and assemble and mail out-going material. Maintain the central filing system (official records, directives, BLM manual and technical references, Departmental manuals and directives, secretarial orders, etc.) Provide assistance in researching and locating reference information and other files, resolve recurring issues related to missing materials and filing errors.

Qualifications

In order to be rated as qualified for this position, we must be able to determine that you meet the qualification requirements - please be sure to include this information in your resume. No assumptions will be made about your experience. FOR GS-05: You must possess one (1) full year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-4 level that is equivalent in difficulty and complexity as indicated by the following examples: Using a PC to process a wide range of documents, such as graphics, tables, update & revise databases, or spreadsheets. Working in Microsoft Word, Excel, etc. Recognize discrepancies & correct or question originators in such matters as improper formatting grammar, & missing information. Conducting file management, monitor and track obligations and expenditures, process transactions such as obligations, collections, reconciliations in an automated financial system. Make purchases through simplified acquisition procedures. Prepare travel documents in an automated system. Handle incoming and outgoing mail, email, and phones calls. Has previous customer service experience. -OR- Education: 4 years above high school. -OR- Combination of Education and Specialized Experience: Total qualifying education and experience as listed above when combined must total to 100 percent to qualify. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. You must meet all qualification requirements by the closing date of the announcement. Physical Demands: The work is typically sedentary. Some work may require periods of walking, standing, bending, or driving a motor vehicle. The incumbent may frequently lift relatively light boxes, materials, and supplies and/or carry file folders, copied materials, books, and other similar materials. Work Environment: Work is typically located in an adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated office environment. The work environment may involve everyday risks or discomforts that require normal safety precautions typical of such places as offices, mail distribution centers, meeting and training rooms, libraries, or motor vehicles.
