About the Position: Serves as Liaison Specialist and Unit Public Affairs Representative in the Soldier Recovery Unit (SRU) under the general supervision and direction of the SRU Deputy to the Commander. Responsible for planning, evaluating, developing, coordinating and personally overseeing all aspects of the liaison program for the SRU.
Duties
Primary staff advisor on all liaison matters to the Commander, his/her staff, and geographically dispersed command elements.
Works with Medical Readiness Command’s (MRC) Public Affairs Office (PAO), Naval Support Activity Bethesda’s PAO, and Walter Reed National Military Medical Center’s (WRNMMC) PAO.
Plans, directs, and assists the arrangement, coordination, and execution of liaison services, programs, and events for the SRU and other tenant activities.
Determines attendees in accordance with the Commander's guidance, proper procedure and mailing of invitations, design and production of event programs, billeting arrangements, and transportation requirements.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is subject to annual vaccination.
- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
- Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315. While probationary the incumbent can be terminated with limited appeal rights.
- This position may require the incumbent to work during irregular work hours which may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and/or varying work schedules.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes executes protocol support for a variety of military official and social functions AND advises on proper protocol procedures for military events and visitors, such as high-ranking military or civilian officials. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-11).
