Duties

Will work as a member of a maintenance team under the supervision of Work Lead or Assistant District Manager Support Services. Work is performed under general supervision, where instructions are presented orally or in writing. The incumbent is expected to independently carry out assignments including determining the type materials and methods to complete the assigned tasks. The incumbent may schedule projects, coordinate work with other staff or outside partners, and resolve technical problems on his/her own.

Physical Demands: The work requires standing on hard surfaces for extended periods, often while operating power equipment and tools. Work requires bending, stooping, kneeling, working in uncomfortable positions, and confined spaces. Use of heavy powered cleaning equipment is required, but not on a continual basis. Strenuous physical exertion is sometimes required when handling heavy or bulky items weighing more than 50 pounds, moving, and setting ladders or scaffolding, conducting snow removal and grounds maintenance. Work Environment: Most work is performed indoors in temperature controlled and well-ventilated areas. When working outside the incumbent is subject to hot and cold temperature extremes, prolonged exposure to the sun and wind. The incumbent may be subject to cuts, burns, muscle strains, electrical shock, and abrasions while repairing and handling equipment. The incumbent may work in confined areas such as crawl spaces that are dusty, dirty, extreme heights on ladders, and scissor lifts. The incumbent can be subjected to vibrations from heavy cleaning equipment, and skin irritations from cleaning solutions. Care is required to avoid serious injuries when working on ladders, scaffolds, or lifts, and when using heavy powered equipment. Welding involves exposure to fumes, infrared and ultraviolet radiations, heat, flying sparks and the possibility of eye injury and burns. Welding also includes work in awkward or cramped positions to get too hard-to-reach places. Protective devices such as ear plugs, safety glasses, respirators and gloves are required.
