This position is located at Dzilth-na-o-dith-hle Health Center (DZHC), Housekeeping Department, Bloomfield, New Mexico. The purpose of this position is to provide technical and administrative supervision of subordinates to ensure maintenance of environmental sanitation within acceptable levels of bacteriological, as well as, visual, cleanliness throughout the health center. Incumbent works under the general supervision of the Health System Administrator, Bloomfield, NM.
Duties
NOTE: Competition for Housekeeping Aid is restricted by law to persons entitled to Veteran's Preference as long as such applicants are available for appointment. For Applicants applying under the provision of the Excepted Service Examining Plan, Consideration for this position is limited to applicants entitled to VETERANS Preference. If there are less than three veterans available, Non- Preference eligibles may be considered.
Planning: makes assignment, explains work requirements and directly supervises staff involved in cleaning entire clinic area.
Work Direction: Reassign housekeeping aids to other area and inspects linen, inventories, maintain adequate supply of cleaning materials.
Administration: Prepares daily, monthly work schedules, yearly tentative leave schedules and prepares Performance Appraisals System for all subordinate Housekeeping personnel. Inspects work completion of housekeeping patient units, that proper disinfection techniques were applied, proper disinfecting of cleaning material and equipment used after a highly infection unit has been vacated, cleaned and disinfected.
Technical: Train Housekeeping Personnel, including new employees, in routine cleaning procedures, using the basic approved methods and advanced techniques for cleaning and disinfecting of isolations areas and the proper methods of disinfecting the equipment used in such areas. Participates with and attends trainings. Incumbent is a working supervisor that performs essentially the same duties of subordinates in areas where there is a shortage.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: There is no specific length of training or experience required: However, applicants will be rated on the basis of their responses to the Occupational Questionnaire that you possess the competencies to perform the duties of this position without more than normal supervision, and the information contained in their resume. Your resume must demonstrate experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Prepares work schedules and assigns work to subordinates. Maintains adequate supply of inventory of hospital cleaning chemicals, detergents, supplies and equipment. Performs routine cleaning techniques and utilization of proper procedures for cleaning. Follows polices and procedures for Safety and Infection Control Standards.
Physical Efforts: Moderate physical effort is required to continuously perform manual cleaning tasks. Position requires walking, standing for long periods, bending, pulling, pushing, lifting, reaching, and climbing. There are occasional short periods of more physical effort when moving furniture, cabinets, and lifting items over 50 pounds.
Working Conditions: Position works inside with adequate lighting and ventilation. Occasionally works outside when washing windows and when assigned to clinics outside of the main buildings. Will be exposed to some mechanical hazards, moving objects, crowded rooms, and wet slippery floor surfaces. Subject to cuts and bruises when lifting and moving heavy items, and minor shock when working with power machines. Subject to exposure to infectious diseases, danger of falling off stepladders when cleaning high areas, hanging draper or curtains.

Ability to plan own work and carry out assignments effectively.
Ability to communicate with others effectively, both orally and in writing, in working out solutions to problems or questions related to work.
Ability to understand and further manage goals as these affect day-to-day work operations.
Ability to develop improvements in or design new work methods and procedures.
Time In Grade
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
