About the position:
This position will be assigned to the Langley Inns at Join Base Langley-Eustis, Hampton, VA.
This is a Regular Full-Time position with a guaranteed minimum of 35 hours a week.
The primary purpose of this position is to plan and perform facility maintenance duties associated with Langley Inns.
Duties
Assists with the planning and performs maintenance in all Lodging facilities. Uses equipment such as Freon recovery units, manifold gauge sets, vacuum pumps, stationary power tools, table saws, drill presses, jointers, plumb lines, spirit level, marking gauges, framing squares, routers, as well as common hand and power tools.
Installs and/or repairs air-conditioning units, thermostats, ice machines, window units, central air-conditioners, troubleshoots, evacuates systems, repairs leaks, charges systems, cleans coils, by the accepted methods and techniques of the trade while observing environmental protection agency rules. Repairs, trouble shoots, recovers Freon, evacuates, cleans and charges, air-condition units as needed. Performs preventative maintenance, plans and completes work from initial layout to final assembly by interpreting and applying specifications, blueprints, sketches, and other guides and codes. Ensures environmental protection agency rules are followed, determines the methods, techniques, materials, devices, and sequences best suited to do the work. Completes work by any of the accepted methods and techniques of the trade.
Constructs, alters, repairs wooden and wood substitute items and structures such as framework, interior and exterior trim, staircases, and a variety of furniture. Installs and/or repairs various flooring materials to include carpeting, vinyl tile, sheet tile, ceramic and quarry tile. Installs and/or repairs windows, doors, hinges, locksets, panic hardware, door closers, suspended ceilings, and a variety of furniture. Installs and/or repairs various plumbing fixtures such as sinks, water faucets, toilets, urinals, and their control mechanisms such as flush valves, diaphragms, shut-off valves, shower controls1 replaces p-traps and garbage disposals. Installs and/or repairs various minor electrical components such as light fixtures, receptacles, switches, TV cable outlets, vacuums, and shampooing equipment. Applies paint using brush or roller, tapes and spackles dry wall, using pre-mix filler as required.
Operates a variety of gasoline, diesel or electric powered-wheeled vehicles, such as platform trucks, van trucks, and stake trucks.
Performs laborer duties when there are no maintenance or gardener duties to perform due to inclement weather, shortage or unavailability of supplies, etc., or as required assisting with other projects.
Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements
- This position requires the incumbent to complete a background investigation with favorable results.
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and one every three years thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
- This position is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
- The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.

Qualifying Experience:
Must have functional experience that demonstrated a mastery of facility/equipment maintenance. Must have knowledge and experience in plumbing, carpentry, and painting trades/occupations. Must have demonstrated the ability to troubleshoot and determine the need for repair and servicing of facilities, utilities, and equipment. Incumbent must be able to read, interpret, and apply building plans specifications and blueprints, must have experience in setting up, adjusting and adapting hand and power tools to accomplish tasks. Experience operating one or more gasoline, diesel or electric powered wheeled vehicles. Must be able to lift, bend, and work in awkward positions both indoors and outdoors. Must be able to lift objects weighing up to 40 pounds and heavier with assistance. Requires possession of a valid motor vehicle license. Must successfully complete a pre-employment physical. Must be able to satisfactorily complete a National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI). "This is a drug testing designated position. The incumbent is subject to random testing/or drug use."

Works in a courteous and cooperate manner with guests, co-workers, supervisors and outside agencies. Performs routine duties with little need for supervision or assistance. Implements and maintains an effective internal control system to preclude or minimize the potential for fraud, waste and abuse. Keeps supervisors informed of progress and advises supervisors of significant developments that may impact plans, projects, or operations. With few exceptions, operates vehicles in accordance with established procedures and federal, state, and local traffic regulations. Operates the motor vehicle in a manner that minimizes violations due to employee error or negligence.
