About the Position: Serves as a technician, the function of which is to fit, fabricate, design, modify and repair orthotic braces and appliances prescribed by physicians; and to repair orthopedic shoes for both inpatients and outpatients. Provides appropriate healthcare to all age groups (infants, children, adults, geriatrics) served by the clinic.

Duties
Fabricate and fits brace or appliance to patient and makes adjustments and modifications required to meet desires of doctor and needs of patient.
Uses various machines, tools and equipment, such as drill press, band saw, metal grinders, leather cutters, sewing machines, and hand tools, to perform functions.
Make patterns, impressions, and molds to fabricate orthotic devices, utilizing a variety of materials such as plastic, aluminum, leather, resins, korex, synthetic fabrics and neoprene.
Receive prescriptions from physicians for all types of orthotic braces and appliances ranging from simple arm and hand braces.
Requirements
- This position has specific initial background investigation and periodic re-verification requirements since its duties require interaction with children and youth under the age of eighteen (18) years of age on a recurring basis.
- All Health Care Providers must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) training and certification that is sponsored or endorsed by the American Heart Association (AHA).
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position has mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirements and is subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations unless otherwise exempted for medical or religious reasons (documentation of exemption must be provided upon hire).
- This position is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) subject to a pre-employment drug screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.

Basic Requirements:
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes fabricating, designing, modifying and repair orthotic braces and appliances prescribed by physicians; and to repair orthopedic shoes for patients; and operating a variety of equipment associated with the fabrication process of devices.This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).
