Duties
Determine the nature of test parameters to be measured and plan approaches to be used to evaluate a software system.
Generate design specifications and test plans directed toward improving biological and/or physical science data and information systems.
Assist with planning and project management activities in relation to research project operations.
Assist with preparing presentations and briefings for reporting the implementation of new or modified data work processes and operations.
Coordinate with interdisciplinary science teams and clients to coordinate information flow regarding new and ongoing research projects and services.
Assist and train system users on database design, and the selection and execution of programs.
Electronically transfers scientific data and reconciles inconsistencies.
Creates natural resource metadata records to document changes, and stores backup versions of original data files.
Provide technical guidance/support biometrics, data visualization and analytics, and data applications.
Identifies problems and bottlenecks in the information management system and makes recommendations for improvement.

Qualifications

Your application and resume must clearly show that you possess the experience requirements. This position has a positive education requirement for either the GS-0401 or GS-1301 series. Transcripts must be provided for qualifications based on education. Provide course descriptions as necessary. This is an interdisciplinary position and may be filled in any of the job series listed below.
Basic Requirement:
GS-0401: Degree: Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree that included a major field of study in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position.
OR
Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree in a major field of study that included 24 semester hours in course work in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position. Related course work generally refers to courses that may be accepted as part of the program major.
OR
Combination of education and experience that included 24 semester hours in course work in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position, AND experience sufficient to demonstrate that I possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform work in the occupation that is comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of a full 4-year course of study with a major in the appropriate field needed to perform the work of the occupation.
Basic Requirement
GS-1301: Degree: Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree that included a major field of study in physical or natural science, or engineering that included at least 30 semester hours in any combination of courses in hydrology, the physical sciences, geophysics, chemistry, engineering science, soils, mathematics, aquatic biology, atmospheric science, meteorology, geology, oceanography, or the management or conservation of water resources. The course work must have included at least 6 semester hours in calculus (including both differential and integral calculus), and at least 6 semester hours in physics. Calculus and physics, as described above, are requirements for all grade levels.
OR
Combination of education and experience -- course work as shown above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
In addition to meeting the basic requirement, you must also possess experience and/or directly related education in the amounts listed below.
Specialized Experience Requirement:
GS-11: One year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-09. Specialized Experience is defined as 52 weeks 3 out of 4 of the following:
Assists analysts with summarizing most recent forest inventory information and resource reports;
Participates in the design, development, and maintenance (including normalization) of relational databases for scientific use;
Analyzes data work processes and operations to determine the feasibility of upgrading data management workflows or implementing new ones;
Assists in the development, improvement, and/or enhancement of methodologies and databases concerning the extent, content and trends of forest resources including carbon and biomass.
OR
Substitution of education for experience:
Completion of a Ph.D. or equivalent graduate degree, or 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or equivalent doctoral degree (coursework directly related to position being filled), if related. The education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university and demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work in fields such as Biology, Ecology, Natural Resources, Environmental Science or Forestry.
OR
An appropriate combination of specialized experience and directly related graduate level education (beyond what is required for a master's degree, i.e., more than 36 semester hours leading to a Ph.D.).
