The Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) seeks a Facility Operations Specialist. The incumbent will oversee, monitor, and perform functions associated with aquatic animal life support and facilities services. Experience with managing projects, water filtration systems and water quality for aquatic animals is strongly preferred. Position is in a laboratory setting; familiarity with equipment, laboratory maintenance, and operations is desired.
Duties
Oversees performance of water filtration, water quality testing program, troubleshoots errors, and arranges repairs and preventive maintenance of equipment.
Ensures that critical life support systems and infrastructure are appropriately maintained and repaired, and upgrades performed appropriately.
Responsible for life support of both the centralized and decentralized facilities, working directly with contract life support staff.
Serves as a back up to the Aquatics Facility Manager and communicates with the facility veterinarian and the NICHD Animal Program Director.
Works closely with management in planning, directing, coordinating, and evaluating the maintenance, repair, rehabilitation, and operations of the physical facilities, at NICHD aquatics facilities.

Qualifications
You qualify at the GS-12 level, if you meet the following qualification requirements:
You must demonstrate in your resume at least one (1) year of qualifying experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the types of tasks as relates to aquatics life support: implementing a preventive maintenance program for aquatic building systems; providing recommendations to management on facility and construction issues; implementing new systems and providing support to building operations by reviewing plans, standards and requirements for the maintenance, construction, and implementation of and associated systems; providing assistance in construction operations including inspections of electrical, mechanical and structural aspects of construction; evaluating operating methods for new and improved materials, tools and equipment; and monitoring and maintenance of appropriate water quality for aquatic species.
