About the Position: This is a Direct Hire Authority solicitation utilizing the DHA for DIB-MRTFB to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.
About the Position: Provide technical and administrative supervision over subordinate workers in nutritional services, to include food preparation, staff dining services, and related support work. Position is with 96th Medical Group, Medical support Squadron, Nutritional Medicine Flight, Eglin AFB, Florida.
Duties
Plan on a daily or weekly basis the use of subordinate workers, equipment, facilities, and materials in Nutritional Medicines.
Adhere to work priorities, project schedules, resources and detailed work plans established by higher level supervisor.
Ensure proper coordination among shifts and upon shift changes as to the availability of materials and equipment required.
Provide advice, guidance, and direction on a wide range of nutritional medicine issues, including food production safety and sanitation, staff feeding in related areas.
Report progress on work assignments and request authority to adjust worker assignments and to use overtime, equipment, and materials to meet schedules.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination.
- This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is subject to annual vaccination.
- This position is subject to screening and update of required immunizations unless exempted for medical or administrative reasons in accordance with regulations.
- This position will be required to work rotating shifts.
- The work requires the employee to possess a food handler’s Card, and use/wear appropriate uniforms, safety, and sanitation equipment.
- Employee must take and pass a pre-employment physical.
- This position requires Basic Life Support (BLS) training.
- Position is included in the TB/Hep B/Rubella testing and/or immunization program(s).

However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.
Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Cook Supervisor ~ without more than normal supervision to Lead or supervise - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.
PHYSICAL EFFORT: Cooks perform work requiring continual standing and walking with frequent stooping, reaching, pushing, pulling and bending. Cooks frequently lift or move objects weighing up to 40 pounds unassisted and occasionally lift over 40 pounds with assistance.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Kitchens are well lighted but often hot and noisy. Work requires exposure to: steam, fumes and odors; soiling of hands and clothing; extreme cold temperatures of freezers and refrigerators and heat of cooking equipment and ovens. There is danger of slipping on wet or soiled floors. Cooks are subject to cuts from knives or other equipment and subject to burns from steam, scalding, hot foods, or grease.
