This position is located at the Malcolm Randall VA Medical Center in Lake City, FL. The Painter position is responsible for the completion of the work orders assigned to them from the supervisor. The incumbent is responsible for maintaining and applying coating materials needed to protect the premises and a variety of equipment, furniture and structures.
Duties
The Painter is responsible for maintaining and applying coating materials needed to protect the premises and a variety of equipment, furniture and structures. Duties include but are not limited to:
Proper preparation of surfaces to be painted.
Proper use of water blaster or sandblasting equipment.
Re-occurring maintenance and the application of coating materials on various structures, surfaces and substrates on the premises.
The application of various paints, primers, stains, lacquers, varnishes, epoxies, paint thinners, anti-mildew growth inhibitors, alkali and phosphate compounds by accepted methods and techniques of the trade.
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday 8:00am to 4:30pm.

Physical Requirements: Painters will sometimes have to work in cramped tight and uncomfortable positions. Ladders, scaffolding and platforms are sometimes needed to coat surfaces out of reach. This position requires sometimes prolonged stooping, knelling, standing, climbing and bending. The position also requires the carrying and lifting of 10 pounds of equipment and supplies on a regular basis and up to 40 pounds occasionally.
Working Conditions: This work is accomplished inside and out and sometimes in extreme heat, cold and undesirable climate. Sometimes uncomfortable protective equipment is needed and there are some possibilities of being exposed to physical injuries at times.

EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards.
