The Maintenance Supervisor position is located within the Facilities Management Service (FMS) at the Kansas City VA Medical Center (KCVAMC).

Responsible for the month-to-month and longer (up to one year) planning of work activities for the Maintenance and Operations Organization at the Kansas City VA Medical Center. Work is generated through several sources: preventive maintenance program, schedule, work order request program, Environment of Care rounds, internal rounds/external reviews, management requests for renovation/remodeling, recurring maintenance, repair, planned work, and emergency repairs and maintenance
Reviews the immediate and long-range requirements of the organizational segments and groups supervised based on workload forecasts, and develops, for approval by superiors, plans for meeting long-range resource requirements tied to the Service Line In-House Construction Section. Provides information and advice to higher level supervisors, management officials, and staff organizations on feasibility of work assignments as scheduled, budget estimates, and workload data to assist in developing or reviewing proposed long-range schedules and work requirements and may participate with superiors in planning conferences and meetings.
Evaluates resources required to accomplish the proposed work "packages" or program(s) in relation to the resources committed to ongoing and previously scheduled work operations and recommend changes to superiors concerning previously planned work schedules. Analyzes work plans developed by subordinate supervisors and monitor the status of their work in relation to the overall schedule requirements, including unanticipated or emergency requirements. Obtains prior approval of changes that would modify or deviate overall work schedules or affect work operations controlled by supervisors not under their control. Determines resource requirements, materials, and the number of subordinates and the types of skills necessary to accomplish long-range work schedules. Allocates resources and distributes work to organizational segments or groups under their control.
Plans work efforts that satisfy the demands and needs of the Medical Center, establishes priorities, sequences the work, coordinates, and accomplishes the workload in an efficient and comprehensive manner. Works with subordinate shop supervisors in determining resource requirements, including equipment, space, materials, maintenance and repair parts, contract support, staffing, overtime, etc., to accomplish the workload. Submits resource justifications, participates in budget reviews, and prioritizes/maximizes work within available budget and constraints. Allocates resources and distributes work to the various sections and shops based upon needs of the Medical Center while considering shop capabilities and relative workloads. Coordinates and tailors work operations involving other services of the Medical Center to minimize adverse impacts to their operations. Utilizes the Engineering Technician for technical administrative support in developing and executing service contracts to support the shop supervisors and their work loads.
Provides information and project support advice to higher level leadership and management officials regarding feasibility and cost of work assignments, budget estimates, and workload data to assist in preparation and review of long-range plans and schedules. Participates in planning conferences and meetings. Scope of involvement includes the full range of maintenance related activities from routine preventive maintenance (PM) and Maintenance and Repair (M&R) through renovation, remodeling, and construction.
Responds to all emergency maintenance needs to make sure needs are met in an appropriate and timely manner and the work required is reflected in planning and scheduling.
Assigns and explains work requirements to subordinate supervisors, setting deadlines, and establishing sequence of work operations to be followed. Investigates and analyzes work accomplishments, costs, utilization of staff, etc., to evaluate effectiveness of work effort, to control costs, to innovate, and to recommend changes and corrective actions to supervisors.

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: Manages and directs the Maintenance and Operations Organization at the Kansas City VA Medical Center, which consists of the following sections: Buildings, Grounds, Mechanical, Electrical, Boiler Plant, In-House Construction, and HVAC. Supervises seven shop supervisors along with a total of 85 trade personnel plus, any additional temporary employees who may be employed for special projects, remodeling, alterations, etc. Plans, organizes, coordinates, directs, and assigns work activities to subordinate supervisors and coordinates activities with other medical center services.
