About the Position: The U.S. Military Academy, West Point, NY is an academic institution located in the Hudson River Valley, 50 miles from New York City. The historic site is the oldest continuously occupied military post in America. West Point is a self-contained city with housing, a Department of Public Works, libraries, hospital, fire department, chapels, and restaurants. Employees have access to Eisenhower Hall Theater, Hudson Valley's performing arts center, and recreational facilities.
Duties
Engage in original research to support the Center’s mission to educate, train, and inspire future army officers in character development through methodologies of race or gender history.
Instruct elective course in Race, Ethnicity, Nation, Gender and support undergraduate thesis research and writing.
Teach an American History or Regional (Africa, East Asia, Latin America, Middle East, Europe, Russia or Central Asia) History survey at the undergraduate level and in the candidate's area(s) of specialty.
Assist the Center for Holocaust and Genocide Studies (CHGS) Director with research, administrative requirements, projects, and activities.
Provide administrative support to the West Point Diversity and Inclusion Studies minor.
Support Center’s collaboration with the Department of Defense on other Government agencies with human rights related activities and research.

This is a full-time term appointment in the excepted service not to exceed 13 months, it will begin on or after 24 June 2024. Term appointments may be extended beyond the initial term. As a term employee you will be eligible for medical insurance, life insurance, retirement, dental and vision. You will be eligible to earn annual leave and sick leave.
BASIC QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Applicants must (a) hold a bachelor's degree or higher that included or was supplemented by major study in education or in a subject-matter field appropriate to the position, OR (b) possess a combination of education and experience -- courses equivalent to a major in education, or in a subject-matter field appropriate to the position, plus appropriate experience or additional course work that provided knowledge comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of the 4-year course of study described above.
In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, your application package will be rated on the following selective placement factor, knowledge, skills and abilities (KSA) requirements listed below:
SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTOR/KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Applicants will be evaluated on the following: 1) Academic Accomplishment (Ph.D. preferred) in Race, Gender History or a closely related field. 2) Ability to teach an introductory survey in Regional World History or United States Army History and/or advanced elective on race and gender. 3) Knowledge and commitment to student centered and active learning instruction at the undergraduate level preferred. 4) Scholarly successes or evidence of potential for appropriate research, writing, communication ability and publication in areas of Race, Gender History or closely related field. 5) Ability to contribute to initiatives of a Holocaust and Genocide center to include assistance with academic administration.
