Salary: $32 - 38 per hour

You will serve as a TOOLMAKER in the Machine Shop Branch (Code 1440.2) Production Division (Code 1440) Naval Foundry and Propeller Center (NFPC) (Code 1400) in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania a detachment of NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD.

Duties

You will design, manufacture, calibrate, recondition, and repairmachine shop tools, jigs, fixtures, and gages used by workers performing machining and assembly work. You will make detailed layouts using all precision measuring devices. You will construct and adapt own holding devices and fixtures used on machine tools in order to perform special and precise machining operations.

Requirements

Qualifications

Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the job elements and screen out listed below. This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO DO THE WORK OF THE POSITION WITHOUT MORE THAN NORMAL SUPERVISION Ability to utilize machining experience and is competent in all facets of the machine tool trade. Ability to utilize skill set and ingenuity that's relied upon when designing jigs and fixtures required for complex set-ups. Ability to maintain safe operation of the older and modern machine tools and is required to make all decision relating to the production tasks assigned. Ability to provide guidance and instruction to their peers and oversee the progress of other jobs throughout the production process. Ability to maintain machine shop practices and processes, and keep abreast of technological changes as they occur and affect manufacturing procedures.
