Duties
Performs a variety of tasks involved in packing and repacking non-hazardous and/or hazardous materials and items. Selects proper container and methods of packing, cushioning and follows specialized packing procedures.
Examines any prepackaged items to determine whether any repacking or over-packing is required, consolidates shipments; and applies certification, identification and shipping data.
Applies a wide variety of packing methods and techniques including blocking and bracing based on the search and application of regulations covering the packing and transporting of hazardous materials.
May pack, preserve, or re-pack material or items where techniques and procedures are standard and/or require little deviation from established methods.
May perform receiving, storing, shipment, and distribution of a variety of bin supplies, materials, equipment, and commodities using material handling equipment to include fork lift, stock selectors, etc.

- This position and any future selections from this announcement may be used to fill various shifts located
anywhere within DLA Distribution Puget Sound, Washington.
- Licenses/Certifications: Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid Material Handling Equipment (MHE) license.
- Licenses/Certifications: Must be able to obtain and maintain licenses and/or certifications required by the installation, federal, state, and local laws.

Qualifications
Applicants will be rated in accordance with the Office of Personnel Management Qualification Standard for Trades and Labor Occupations. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties at the level for which you are applying. Emphasis is placed on how you gained the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time, and the required ability or potential to perform the job. Applicants who do not meet the screen-out element (SOE) will be eliminated from further competition. The SOE and minimum qualifications for this position is:
Ability to perform the common tasks of the job to be filled but under close supervision, such as applying markings, labels and certifications in accordance with written guidance; select appropriate materials for packing.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
PHYSICAL EFFORT:
Work is performed on hard surface areas and requires standing, stooping, bending, and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions for extended period of time. Must be able to lift and move heavy objects weighing up to 40 pounds. Requests assistance or uses mechanical devices for lifting heavier objects.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work is generally performed in inside areas which are well lighted and ventilated. Work is occasionally performed outside or in areas where the incumbent may be exposed to all types of weather conditions, drafts, and poor lighting. Frequently exposed to the possibility of cuts, scrapes and bruises. Exposed to loud noise from tools and machinery; nose, eye, and lung irritations from sawdust. Required to wear ear, eye, and foot protection at all times while working around the above hazards.
