THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION. This National Guard position is for a POWERED SUPPORT SYSTEMS MECHANIC, Position Description Number D1334000 and is part of the HI 154 CES, National Guard. LOCATION: 154th Civil Engineer Squadron, Hawaii Air National Guard, Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, Hawaii

Duties

SUMMARY OF DUTIES: The purpose of this position is to install, repair, maintain, service, and modify scheduled/unscheduled inspections on aircraft arresting systems and electrical power production equipment. Aircraft Arresting Systems: Performs daily, weekly, and monthly inspections, and off-equipment maintenance, on aircraft arresting systems. Replaces nylon tapes and steel wound cables due to wear, time change, or excessive aircraft engagement as directed by technical orders. Coordinates all aircraft arresting systems duties which requires access to active runways with FAA, Air Traffic Control Facility Manager, Flight Safety Officer and Airport Manager. Schedules and coordinates exercises to practice rewind procedures and operations and annual certification engagements. Electrical Power Production Systems: Installs, repairs, maintains, and modifies electrical power production equipment. Maintains and repairs electrical generating equipment. Inspects electrical power production equipment. Advises on technical problems of installation and repair of electrical power production equipment. Performs other duties as assigned. Requirements

  • This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guard, required prior to the effective date of placement.
  • Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform.

  • Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation.
  • May be required to successfully complete a probationary period.

Qualifications

If your resume does not include a narrative description of how you meet the GENERAL, SPECIALIZED experiences, and OTHER requirements, you may lose consideration for this position. GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Experience or training which demonstrates the knowledge of mechanical maintenance work; ability to read and use technical manuals, illustrations, diagrams and schematics, and skill in the use of equipment and hand tools used in troubleshooting, testing, and repairing equipment. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Must have 18 months experience or training removing, adjusting, replacing, cleaning, and installing parts, components, and accessories. Experience which provided working knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic theory applying to powered support equipment and systems; and skill to replace, fit, install, and make adjustments. Experience which provided working knowledge of the makeup and operation of the various individual systems maintained and their interrelationships. Experience reading and interpreting parts lists, manufactures' repair manuals, diagrams, and electrical schematics. PHYSICAL EFFORT: Frequent bending, reaching, crouching, standing, and arm movement is required. Some work performed in awkward positions or in cramped areas. Frequently lifts and carries items weighing up to 40 pounds and occasionally lifts heavier items using jacks, hoists, or other helpers. WORKING CONDITIONS: Works inside and outside. Frequently exposed to drafts, changing temperatures and loud noises. May be exposed to bad weather and irritation or discomfort from dust, heat, fumes, and hard, damp floors. Works with high voltage electrical power and must come in contact with petroleum products. Works on equipment parts that are dirty and greasy and may be dangerous to operation or repair because of defects. Frequently exposed to cuts, burns, strains, and electrical shock while repairing, adjusting, positioning, or moving equipment. Exposed to the possibility of burns and skin irritations from acids, fluids, and lubricants. Follows safety procedures and wears protective glasses and clothing which may be uncomfortable to wear for long periods of time. Personnel are required to be available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, in case of aircraft engagements, power outages and/or other system problems. CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT & NOTES: 1. Must be able to obtain and maintain the appropriate security clearance of the position. 2. This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. An individual convicted of a qualifying crime of domestic violence may not perform the duties of this position. 3. Ability to establish effective professional working relationships with coworkers and customers, contributing to a cooperative working environment and successful accomplishment of the mission. 4. Irregular and/or overtime (compensatory) hours may be required to support operational requirements or contingencies or may be required to work hours outside of the normal duty day. 5. MILITARY TECHNICIAN COMPATIBILITY POSITION: Prior to placement in this position, the selected applicant must be assigned to an appropriate military position and must meet the definition of a dual status technician in accordance with 32 U S C 709. NOTES TO CANDIDATES: a. Situations of inversion of military rank are not permitted, i.e., a military technician may not be militarily senior to his or her full-time supervisor. b. Authorization for payment of PCS expenses will be granted only after determination is made that payment is in the best interest of the Hawaii National Guard. c. In addition to your application, documents of last performance appraisal, past civilian performance, letter of recommendations, and or military performance may be submitted. d. Candidates may be screened and evaluated on military attributes directly related to the compatible military position required to be assigned into, such as, but not limited to, military bearing, leadership, or ability to work with others (teamwork) in a military environment. e.
