The position of Medical Support Assistant is located in the Division of Clinical Services, Ft. Peck Service Unit, Poplar, MT. Position reports to Supervisory Health Specialist or designee.

Duties
Schedule appointments.
Assist with support staff, maintain coverage for information receptionist, patient registration and nurse appointment desk.
Register and obtain pertinent demographic and insurance information from patient.
Requisition and stock various types of medical supplies.
Enter and update patient information in automated patient registration system and automated health record system.
Qualifications
To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks:
GS-3: 6 months of general experience OR High School graduation or equivalent.
GS-4: 1 year of general experience OR 2 years of education above high schools.
GS-5: 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least GS-4 grade level OR 4 years of education above high school.
General Experience (All positions except Reporting Stenographer, Shorthand Reporter, and Closed Micro-phone Reporter)--Progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled.
Specialized Experience (All positions except Reporting Stenographer, Shorthand Reporter, and Closed Micro-phone Reporter)--Experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level. Applicants who have the 1 year of appropriate specialized experience, as indicated in the table, are not required by this standard to have general experience, education above the high school level, or any additional specialized experience to meet the minimum qualification requirements.
NOTE: Equivalent combinations of education and experience are qualifying for all grade levels and positions for which both education and experience are acceptable.
Examples of general experience at GS-4: maintain a filing system, answer telephone, determine nature call and handle appropriately, greet customers, use a computer use correct grammar, spelling, punctuation, and required formats.
Examples of specialized experience at GS-5: assemble patient records according to prescribed formats, determine patients' eligibility for treatment, schedule appointments for patients with other medical services, answer questions regarding routine procedures, operate personal computers, data processing equipment, and/or office support software for word processing, data entry, or data retrieval.
Time In Grade
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
