The Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner (CRNP) positions are located at the Lebanon VA Medical Center in Lebanon, PA and Schuylkill County VA Clinic in Pottsville, PA. The CRNP manages comprehensive medical/psychiatric care for a panel of patients Behavioral Health and Sciences (BH&S) including inpatient, residential, and outpatient settings.

Duties

The CRNP works as a psychiatric and medical (as family practitioner) provider. As part of the clinical duties, the incumbent develops care plans and collaborates with Psychiatrists, Psychologists and other mental health professionals throughout Lebanon VA Medical Center's continuum of services. Incumbent accepts substantial and continuing responsibility and accountability for planning, coordinating and controlling a complex integrated health care practice in both specialties, psychiatric and medical. In this capacity the psychiatric/medical CRNP is part of the interdisciplinary teams and serves as primary psychiatric/medical provider for inpatient psychiatry (including inpatient rounds on weekends/holidays), and also as psychiatric provider for other clinical areas including emergency department, consultation & liaison, outpatient clinics and the residential bed sections. The primary responsibilities will be for psychiatric and medical (family practice) assessments and treatments for Veterans seeking ongoing or time limited treatment for the full range of psychiatric disorders, including substance use disorders, within BH&S services and programs (psychiatric and/or primary care settings) at the Lebanon VA Medical Center and its VA Clinics locations. The incumbent addresses all of the medical issues, completes admission screenings, history and physical examinations, discharge summaries, prescribes medications, orders lab tests and consults, etc. for patients in the Acute Inpatient Psychiatry unit and Residential Rehabilitation Treatment Programs (RRTPs). The Nurse Practitioner provides services primarily during normal business hours, but may have responsibilities to include extended evening and/or weekend hours, and performance of duties within various BH&S programs (acute inpatient psychiatry, residential programs, Compensation & Pension, primary care-mental health integration, consultation & liaison services, emergency department, community living centers, Mental Health Intensive Case Management (MHICM), and other patients being followed in similar clinical settings (Home Based Primary Care), etc.). The Incumbent will be required to participate in on-site inpatient coverage on weekends/holidays with a psychiatrist, as well as in the on-call schedule including overnight. (2) Vacancies at the Lebanon VAMC (1) Vacancy at the Schuylkill County VA Clinic in Pottsville, PA; this position is required to perform duties within the Schuylkill County VA Clinic (3 days per week) and Lebanon VAMC (2 days per week). Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. English Language Proficiency. In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7402(d), no person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless they are proficient in basic written and spoken English. Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). The approving official may authorize a waiver of the requirement for ACEN or CCNE accreditation of any degree in nursing provided the college or university has regional accreditation from an accrediting body recognized by the Department of Education at the time of the candidate's graduation and the composite qualifications of the applicant warrant such consideration. In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. OR The completion of coursework equivalent to a nursing degree in a MSN Bridge Program that qualifies for professional nursing registration constitutes the completion of an approved course of study of professional nursing. Students should submit the certificate of professional nursing to sit for the NCLEX to the VA along with a copy of the MSN transcript. (Reference VA Handbook 5005, Appendix G6) OR In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of a current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement for graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or the District of Columbia. Nurse Practitioners. A nurse practitioner must be licensed or otherwise recognized as a nurse practitioner in a State, possess a master's degree from a program accredited by the NLNAC or CCNE, and maintain full and current certification as a nurse practitioner from the American Nurses Association or another nationally recognized certifying body. Preferred Experience/Requirements: State issued driver license; do not include a copy with your application. Necessary training and ability to prescribe Suboxone and other medication assisted therapies for patients with substance abuse use disorder related care needs. Note: Must have Basic Life Support (BLS) certification prior to assuming clinical duties. The BLS requirement is satisfied by successfully completing an American Heart Association (AHA) BLS Healthcare Provider Course or Military Training Network (MTN). BLS courses are normally offered within 1-5 days of entry on duty. No online certifications will be accepted. Grade Determinations: The following criteria must be met in determining the grade assignment of candidates, and if appropriate, the level within a grade: Nurse I Level I - An Associate Degree (ADN) or Diploma in Nursing, with no additional nursing practice/experience required. Nurse I Level II - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 1 year of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelor's degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience; OR a Bachelor's of Science in Nursing (BSN) with no additional nursing practice/experience. Nurse I Level III - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a Bachelor's degree in a related field and approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a BSN with approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Master's degree in nursing (MSN) or related field with a BSN and no additional nursing practice/experience. Nurse II - A BSN with approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a Bachelor's degree in a related field and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Master's degree in nursing or related field with a BSN and approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Doctoral degree in nursing or meets basic requirements for appointment and has doctoral degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience required. Nurse III - Master's degree in nursing or related field with BSN and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Doctoral degree and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience. Note regarding MSN degrees: If your MSN was obtained via a Bridge Program that qualifies for professional nursing registration, a BSN is not required. Reference: VA Regulations, specifically VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Appendix G-6 Nurse Qualification Standard. This can be found in the local Human Resources Office. Physical Requirements: Moderate lifting, 15-44 pounds (lbs.); light lifting, under 15 lbs.; moderate carrying, 15-44 lbs.; reaching above shoulders; use of fingers; use of both hands required; walking 6-8 hours; standing 6-8 hours; use of both legs required; ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously; near vision correctable at 13" to 16" to Jaeger 1 to 4; far vision correctable in one eye to 20/20 and 20/40 in the other; use of both eyes required; depth perception; ability to distinguish basic colors; hearing (aid permitted) min 15/20 one ear and mental and emotional stability required.
