This position is located at one of the Indian Health Service facilities within the Billings Area Indian Health Service. The position provides skilled clinical engineering services to federally and tribally owned/operated hospitals, health centers, clinics and health stations serviced by the Billings Area Indian Health Service.

Duties

Stand-alone equipment and/or components that contain integrated circuitry (designed along an event and where the patient becomes part of the circuit) and/or microprocessors when the technician must have a complete and thorough knowledge of the entire system and know the effect of completed work on the rest of the system Integrated/networked systems and related electronics and automation/networking required to integrate this equipment into its respective Environment of Care (examples include magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), computed tomography (CT) scanners, radiographic-fluoroscopic (RF) assigned functional area to include compatibility with existing utilities and existing equipment/components, determining what modifications to utilities are necessary to ensure the equipment operates as the user intends, and overseeing selection of network hardware. Serve as an advisor for special projects involving the installation, service and repair of highly complex medical equipment and systems. Serve as technical advisor to clinical staff regarding technical reviews of new equipment considering needs, environment, available facilities, network requirements, quality, repair ability, purchase, etc. and overall life cycle management. Ensure that cabling such as fiber optics, category 5/6, Ethernets, etc., and hardware such as switches, hubs and converters are in place, functioning, and capable of interfacing with said hardware. This process involves coordination with doctors, nurses, medical technicians, medical equipment, manufacturers, independent contractors, Facilities Management and IT departments.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: GS-11: Serve as an advisor for special projects involving the installation, service and repair of highly complex medical equipment and systems; serving as technical advisor to clinical staff regarding technical reviews of new equipment considering needs, environment, available facilities, network requirements, quality, repair ability, purchase, etc.; setting up and installing new patient care systems, conducting preventative maintenance checks and services (PM) inspections of patient care equipment; investigating patient care equipment failures, hazard alerts, recalls, updates and incidents; ordering parts and accessories as necessary to perform repair functions. OR Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree Graduate Education: Education at the graduate level in an accredited college or university in the amounts shown in the table meets the requirements for positions at GS-7 through GS-11. Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work. One year of full-time graduate education is considered to be the number of credit hours that the school attended has determined to represent 1 year of full-time study. If that information cannot be obtained from the school, 18 semester hours should be considered as satisfying the 1 year of full-time study requirement. Part-time graduate education is creditable in accordance with its relationship to a year of full-time study at the school attended. Time In Grade Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP). You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
