This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Candidates with Bachelor's Degrees for Scientific and Engineering Positions to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.
About the Position: This position is located with the U.S. Army Research and Development Center (ERDC), OPERATIONAL SCIENCE & ENG DIVISION TRAINING LANDS AND HERITAGE BRANCH.
Duties
Participate in numerous general tasks associated with field and laboratory research projects
Provide support for supply procurement, equipment maintenance and inventory, and/or biological sample preparation/storage
Manage data, and produce reports documenting findings.
Analyze bat recordings using automated software and manual review of spectrograms
Conduct acoustic and/or mist-net surveys for bats
Analyze biological and ecological data for a variety of projects focused on management of threatened, endangered, at-risk and invasive species.
Perform field work in remote locations and under adverse field conditions (heat, inclement weather, biting insects, etc.).
Identify species from spectrograms of acoustic call recordings.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 25% of the time.
- One year trial period may be required.

Basic Requirement for Biologist:
A. Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position.
OR
B. Combination of Education and Experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
