This position is located in the Environmental Management Service (EMS) of the VA Medical Center in Bronx, New York. The purpose of the Housekeeping Aid Supervisor is to exercises technical and administrative supervision over subordinate workers in supporting and performing tasks (e.g., environment of care, textile distribution and training) associated with the EMS goals and objectives.
Duties
Major duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Responsible for assigning staff for routine and non-routine duties on a daily and project-by-project basis.
Coordinate work with supervisors of other services within the position's areas of duty.
Responsible for cleaning all patient areas, corridor spaces, operating rooms, and all other assigned areas.
Plans daily and weekly assignments, scheduling periodic work for areas of responsibility.
Train staff and ensure they are using the patient centered care principles in terms of customer service to patients, family members, and personnel.
Provide on-the-job training for subordinates as individual needs dictate.
Schedules regular meetings with staff to make them aware of new procedures or directives.
Conduct in-use testing of equipment and/or supplies, providing feedback in regard to observation.
Supervise daily distribution of uniforms and textiles to the designated areas and ensure record keeping is timely and accurate.
Make formal appraisal of subordinates work performance and conduct.
Routinely inspects assigned areas to assure the timely accomplishment of employee assignment, sanitation levels are maintained, and housekeeping objectives are met.
Responsible for the removal of furniture in need of repair or replacement along with the initiation of electronic work request.
Ensures time and attendance records are accurate and complete prior to submission to timekeeper.
Work Schedule: Various schedule to include rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays.

Qualifications
PHYSICAL EFFORT : The position demands continuous walking, standing, stooping, kneeling, pulling, and pushing. The work requires the occasional use of heavy powered cleaning equipment (e.g., wall washers, industrial type buffers) weighing over 50 pounds. The duties necessitate considerable dexterity, hand, foot, and eye coordination, and concentration as well as visual acuity to see dirt, dust and debris.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is normally performed indoors with adequate heat, light, and ventilation. Some work may be performed outdoors where there may be exposed to varying degrees of heat and cold as well as inclement weather. PPE may be required in some circumstance as exposure to possible contagious diseases, blood and bloody secretion are inherent to this position. Care is required to avoid serious injuries (i.e., broken bones) when working on ladders, or when using 30-100-pound power equipment or handling hazardous materials.
