Duties

You will manually load and unload materials or operate Material Handling Equipment to mechanically load/unload materials. You will receive and check paperwork, print out lists and other documents for content and accuracy, and for proper location. You will receive, unload, process incoming shipments and assemble material into groups based on information shown on the receiving documents. You will assist with selecting storage locations and requirements. You will segregate and move materials to designated holding areas. You will ensure all hazardous material in transit is stored and segregated according to compatibility and hazard classes.

Requirements

  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
  • Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver’s license/government vehicle operator permit.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current forklift certification.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • This is a Mission Essential position. You will be required to ensure organization or facility continuity of operations and/or completion of tasks that are considered essential to the mission designated by a local or command decision.

Qualifications

Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. The ability to perform the duties of a Materials Handler demonstrated by experience working under limited supervision, receiving, issuing, and storing, various types of materials, supplies, and equipment; Reads shipping documents; Certifies completeness and accuracy of deliveries; Checks, counts, inspects for damage, and identifies materials, verifying against documentation; Load/unload vehicles; Retains identity of materials in storage, storing items in the correct location; Reads and prepares material/inventory documents, running inventory reports and shipping documents; Pulls and consolidates material, making delivery arrangements to customers; Monitors shelf -life expiration of material; Use automated equipment and computerized supply programs to track and move material Reads and understands warehouse plans: Incumbent selects items for shipment or issue and determines the specific dock and hold location; Operates trucks up to 10,000 lbs to transport material; Operates materials handling equipment/forklift Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
