About the Position: This position is located at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. Primary duties are throughout the hospital in patient care areas, storage areas, warehouses, loading docks, and in administrative office settings. Work hours are regular first shift. Shifts may rotate as necessary with sufficient advanced notice, with potential for over-time and on-call work.

Duties

Apply latest technological advances relating to the specialization; and analyzes and evaluates designs, proposals and ideas submitted by others. Determine that all data needed for production is provided in accordance with appropriate technical standards. Prepare cost estimates for facility management projects. Develop and update policy that will keep the facilities accredited at all times through execution of contractual oversight. Monitor performance of contractor and government hospital maintenance and upkeep procedures for compliance. Research technical manuals, hospital policies and procedures on the environment of care standards for the sterility and cleanliness of the hospital environment provided by the Facility management department. Provide guidance to staff regarding technical matters for on-going Facility Management projects. Write instructions for the operating, maintenance and calibration of equipment. Inspect and provide Quality Assurance duties for various Facility Maintenance contracts that support the operation and maintenance of a military hospital according to applicable accreditation standards. Provide guidance and oversight to other inspectors, making inspections of work, providing schedules, and reviewing other inspectors' submittals and transmitting final reports and inspections to the Contracting Officer for validation.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Tier 3 security investigation or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
  • This position may require the incumbent to work on any day or shift, including PMs, nights, weekends, holidays, or on an "on call" basis, necessary to meet mission requirements.
  • This position requires the incumbent to have tuberculosis testing.

Interprets standards of work, (primarily hospital cleanliness) applying them to existing conditions in the medical treatment facility. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-10). Individual Occupational Requirement: Examples of qualifying specialized experience include technical work in: maintenance and upkeep of a medical center. Experience in a trade or craft may be credited as specialized experience when the work provided intensive knowledge of engineering principles, techniques, methods, and precedents to include contractual management and performance of contractual inspection services.
