This Supervisory Nurse position is located in the Women and Children's Clinic Branch within the Division of Nursing at Crownpoint Service Unit, Crownpoint, NM. Crownpoint Service Unit is a general acute medical hospital serving Navajo and other American Indians in a rural setting and provides medical services.

Duties

Directs client care by planning, organizing, directing and reviewing work required to provide quality safe comprehensive nursing care. Provides information, instruction, and training in tasks and job techniques. Executes the Provision of Care on the unit, including compliance with standards of care, patient safety and compliance with other applicable standards. Plans the work for the unit including completion of work schedules, adjusting work schedules as needed to meet the staff and patient care needs. Provides supervision to subordinate employees, including counseling, disciplinary action, corrective action, evaluation, and overall management of each unit employee. Represents or is delegated as the acting vacant capacities.

Qualifications

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. BASIC REQUIREMENT(S): Education: A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (external link), Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs (external link), Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education (external link), or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (external link) at the time the degree was obtained. Degree from Foreign Nursing School: Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools (external link) is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools. Licensure: For all grade levels and positions, applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination (external link). In addition, they must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: GS-12: In addition to the mandatory license and education described above under Basic Requirements: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience that has equipped me with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. This specialized experience is related to the work of the position and equivalent to at least the GS-11 level in the Federal service as described in the vacancy announcement. Examples Include: Directing and managing nursing activities in all clinical areas as the unit supervisor. Assess plan, implement, direct and evaluate the care of patients in an inpatient facility setting; implement accreditation requirements; supervisor subordinate staff; prepare work performance plans, schedules and evaluate work performance of subordinate staff; as a supervisor initiate and submit required information to fill vacancy position, promote subordinate staff, give advice, counsel or instruction to subordinate staff on administrative matters, hear and resolve complaints from staff, effect disciplinary measures when needed. In addition to the mandatory license and education described above under Basic Requirements applicants must have at least one or more full years of professional nursing experience that is equivalent to the next lower grade level. Time In Grade Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP). You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
