This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Domestic DIB & MRTFB in DoD to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: This position is located at the Directorate of Industrial Operations, Letterkenny Army Depot, Chambersburg, Pennsylvania.

Duties

Prepare sandblasting bays, charters and booths. Remove matter from items such as rust, scale, and paint. Operate abrasive blasting equipment to clean metal and nonmetal surfaces. Prepare items for painting after sandblasting. Sort work and set up equipment according to standard procedures. Follow proper safety procedures when using sandblasting equipment.

Requirements

• Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
• Must obtain and maintain Secret Security Clearance.
• Must be willing to undergo pre- employment and annual physical.
• Must be able to lift up to 40 lbs.
• Must be willing to accept a term appointment scheduled to last 13 months, may be extended up to 6 years.
• Must be willing to complete one year trial period.

Qualifications

Who May Apply: US Citizens This is a term position not to exceed 13 months. Term positions may be extended up to a maximum of 6 years, and MAY NOT be converted to permanent. Term employment is subject to a one-year trial period. Employees serving a trial period can be removed with limited appeal rights. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to perform common sandblaster duties to include sorting work based on type and nature of item; preparing items for blasting by masking or covering; loading correct abrasive required for item type; and operating stationary/portable sandblasting equipment. I can maintain equipment using maintenance manual instructions and follow safety procedures. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Physical Effort: Work requires standing, bending, and reaching in strained or awkward positions for prolonged periods of time. Lifts and carries items or material that weigh up to 40 pounds and controls nozzles or lines with extremely high pressures. Working Conditions: Work is inside under varied temperatures, light, and ventilation conditions and is exposed to dirt, dust, noise, and flying objects. Incumbent is subject to cuts, burns, bruises, and broken bones and is required to wear protective equipment, such as, ear protection, respirators, goggles, protective clothing and gloves, and safety shoes.
