The Lead File Clerk position is located within the Scanning Section of the Health Information Management (HIMS) in the Business Operations Service (BOS) at the Kansas City Veterans Affairs Medical Center (KCVAMC). Incumbent will lead the functions of the file room and scanning activities of the file room/scanning clerks within HIMS.

Major duties include, but are not limited to:
Provides services and technical advice to meet procedural and administrative requirements of the receipt, scanning, indexing, quality assurance and destruction of health and administrative information;
Provides support to related to scanning with various software applications;
Assists in the distribution of assignments to staff on a daily basis to assure even workflow, expeditious handling of priorities, and the meeting of deadlines;
Maintains communication with the team, monitors progress or work, makes day-to-day adjustments in accordance with established priorities, obtains assistance from the Supervisor and notifies Supervisor of any backlog;
Conducts random quality review audits to ensure integrity of scanned images;
Maintains productivity logs of all staff and section workload reports for performance measure reporting;
Provides the Supervisor feedback on employee performance, progress and training needs, behavior problems, promotions, reassignments, recognition of outstanding
performance, and personnel needs;
Conducts on the job training to new employees and ongoing training for all File Clerk staff in accordance with established
procedures and practices;
Fully protects the confidentiality of customer information, access to computer files and release of access codes, according to established guidelines and policy;
Communicates effectively with others.
Work Schedule: Monday to Friday 7:00 am -3:30 pm, 7:30 am -4:00 pm, 8:00 am -4:30 pm

Qualifications

You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below:
Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-4 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: provides technical advice for administrative requirements of health and administrative information, assists in the assignment and review of daily work assignments; utilize software applications for collection and reporting of data, conducts on the job training, and communicates effectively with others; OR,
Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have four (4) full years of education above high school; OR,
Combination: Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. You must have an combination of specialized experience and education beyond one (1) year, which equals to 100%. .

Physical Requirements: The work involves considerable walking, standing and bending in searching form various files. There is occasional lifting and carrying of such items as record boxes and bulky files.
