his is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Domestic Defense Industrial & Major Range and Test Facilities Base to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: Test and inspect a wide variety of standard and non-standard weapons, fitting and finishing of new and modified components to very close tolerance. Redesign and modify components of weapons accomplishing the degree of performance desired.

Duties

•Perform full range of work involved in the complete rebuild, modification, repair, inspection, and testing for all types of small arms and artillery system Plan and lay out work making drawings and indicating tolerances for the making of parts that are to be fabricated in the Machine Shop. Conduct inventories of weapons and ammunition in accordance with regulations. Identify proper shooting posture and balance of weapons to lay out wooden stocks and handgrips to the personal specification of the user. Take weapon to firing range and test fires for evaluation of performance. Occasionally drive a 1/2 to 5-ton truck to transport supplies. Fit and finish new and modified components to developed specifications.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position is covered by the civilian drug abuse testing program. Incumbent is required to sign a DA Form 5019, Condition of Employment for certain civilian positions identified as critical under the Drug Abuse Testing Program.
  • This position is covered by the 1996 Lautenberg Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968. Persons convicted of a misdemeanor or felony crime of domestic violence are not eligible for the position. Criminal history background check required.
  • Position requires a Secret Security Clearance.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License.
  • This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain an Official US Passport.
  • This position requires specific immunizations for foreign travel.
  • This position has a requirement to lift up to 50 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Armament Equipment Repairer ~ without more than normal supervision. Must possess the ability to apply common knowledge of firearms operating principles, inspection, and testing procedures to perform tasks such as rebuilding, modifying, repairing, inspecting, and testing all types of small arms and artillery systems. Items include rifles, handguns machine guns, mortars, rocket launchers and recoilless systems. Items are standard military and non-standard weapons. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. PHYSICAL EFFORT Work involves lifting subassemblies or small weapons weighing 15 to 20 pounds, and often carrying large assemblies and weapons weighing up to 50 pounds. Work requires walking, bending, and long periods of standing. WORKING CONDITIONS Work is performed for a preponderance of time in well-lighted and ventilated shops with occasional trips to firing ranges; shop floors are usually of cement construction. Exposure to excessive noise from test firing weapons; possible injury due to handling tools and weapons; contact with dirt,grease, dust, and fumes; and more serious injury when unloading jammed or misfired weapons,ricochet bullets, and acids.
