The primary purpose of this position is to perform basic laboratory technical tasks that require application of fundamental principles in the technical area of rocket propulsion and engineering. Assists in day-to-day operations of the organization including logistics and facility management.
Duties
Applies basic knowledge to perform well-defined work activities with guidance.
Acquires or exchanges information with individuals on same team or within own organization for routine and recurring issues.
Interacts with customers to communicate information and coordinate routine actions within area of assigned responsibility.
Makes positive contributions to specific aspects of the team's responsibilities.
Requirements
- Must meet suitability requirements for Federal employment
- Must be at least 16 years of age
- Must be enrolled at least half-time as defined by the education institution (typically six semester hours or equivalent for undergraduate and three semester hours or equivalent for graduate students)
- Must sign a Participant Agreement
- U.S. citizen or national (resident of American Samoa or Swains Island)
- Must be eligible to work under U.S. immigration laws

- Must obtain and maintain the appropriate clearance
- Must meet the qualification standards of the position at the time of application
- Must be a student currently enrolled or accepted for enrollment in an accredited academic institution
- Must have a good academic standing (no less than 3.0 cumulative GPA on a 4.0 grading scale for bachelor's programs and 3.0 cumulative GPA on a 4.0 grading scale for master's program)
- Must sign a Pathways Internship Program Participant Agreement; furnish course registration information at the start of each school term; and provide verification of academic status (transcript) at the end of each academic term

Qualifications
In order to qualify, you must meet the general experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Student Trainee Positions. Failure to submit transcripts, proof of acceptance or current enrollment in an accredited college/university will result in an ineligible rating.
DX-0399-01, Pathways Intern Student Trainee (Management Assistant) encompasses a pay range equivalent to the GS-01 through GS-04. Qualifications for pay setting purposes will be based on the applicants' current academic level as described below:
For GS-01 equivalent: Current enrollment in a high school diploma program AND at least 16 years of age
For GS-02 equivalent: Completion of high school diploma or equivalent AND acceptance or current enrollment in an accredited college/university
For GS-03 equivalent: Completion of 30 semester hours or more of post high school study leading towards a qualifying degree (i.e. associate's, bachelor's, master's, etc.)
For GS-04 equivalent: Completion of 60 semester hours or more of post high school study leading towards a qualifying degree (i.e. associate's, bachelor's, master's, etc.)
Seeking a professional engineering degree. The curriculum must: (1) be in a school of engineering with at least one curriculum accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) as a professional engineering curriculum; or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics.
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
