The position is for the Electronics Technician for the Physical Control Access Shop in Facilities Maintenance Service (FMS) at the Malcom Randall VA Medical Center in Gainesville, Florida. Works under the general supervision of the Supervisory Electronics Technician, FMS. Specializes in designing, monitoring, and performing maintenance on the Physical Access Control Systems, Security Camera System, Panic/Duress Alarm System, Fire-Alarm System, and Two-Radios. Will provide end-user support.

Duties

Major Duties Include (but not limited to): Provides 24-hour a day emergency response. Restrict and control access to sensitive areas such as networking spaces while escorting vendors, ensuring network security/patient information is maintained. Facilitates between Project Managers, Construction Representatives, Platform Systems Administrators, and low voltage security vendors for new construction, new site build, projects, and service calls. Read and interpret instruction manuals, drawings, specifications, blueprints, schematic diagrams. Troubleshoot, repair, and perform maintenance of Automatic Door Operators and door hardware(s), CLIQ Key Intelligent System, Traka Key Cabinet Systems, Panics/Duress Alarm System, Intrusion Alarm Detection System (IDS), Patients and Security Camera Video Surveillance System (VSS), and Physical Access Control Systems (PACS). Keep abreast of technological changes in the occupation, provide technical guidance and assistance to fellow employees, coordinates and work with others, and display an atmosphere of professionalism always. Thorough knowledge of electronics controls, principles, techniques, programming, test equipment(s) and tools used in the design, installation, troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of hardware, software, electronic, wired or wireless or computerized, security system, access control, duress, camera/video surveillance system, intrusion alarm. Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 11/09/2023. GS-09 Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-09 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-08. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment. The Electronics Technical, Series 0856, has an Individual Occupational Requirements (IOR): Applicants must satisfy the IOR to be further considered for the position. Specialized Experience: Some examples of qualifying specialized experience include: Work as a technician, instructor, inspector, or mechanic (civilian or military) that showed progression in theoretical and practical knowledge of electronic theory, and of the characteristics, function, operation, and capabilities of a variety of types of electronic equipment. This experience must have included the use of schematic diagrams, a variety of test equipment, and the application of appropriate electronic formulas involved in such duties as testing, troubleshooting, modifying, designing, calibrating, installing, maintaining, repairing, constructing, developing, and instructing on electronic equipment, or similar functions. Experience in developing policies, standards, and procedures for maintenance, installation, or similar functions, provided the work clearly shows that the applicant applied a specialized knowledge of the theories and principles of a variety of electronic systems or equipment. You may qualify based on your experience or education as described below: GS-09 Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-08 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Design, install, program, configure, commission, test, monitor and troubleshoot Physical Access Control System (PACS), Security Camera Video Surveillance System (VSS), Intrusion Alarm Detection System (IDS), Panic/Duress Alarm System. Identify database server hardware and software needs and how to deploy them, maintaining database tables, updating/upgrading server firmware and database software. Examine low voltage design for new locations and projects and provide suggestions and ideas pertaining to hardware placement and design. Use proper test equipment and hand tools related to various electronics security systems. Install, design, and test hardwired, electronic, security, computerized accesses control, and duress, security cameras. OR, GS-09 Education (Transcripts Required): Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have Two (2) full years of graduate education or a Master's degree. Note: One year of full-time graduate education is considered to be the number of credit hours that the school attended has determined to represent 1 year of full-time study. If that information cannot be obtained from the school, 18 semester hours should be considered as satisfying the 1 year of full-time study requirement. Physical Requirements: While the work is primarily sedentary, incumbent must be in good health and able to spend several hours daily walking, climbing, and surveying close quarters.
