THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION.
This National Guard position is for a SECURITY OFFICER (TITLE 32), Position Description Number NGD2243000 and is part of the TN 118th WING, Air National Guard.
This vacancy is not eligible for membership to a labor organization.
Duties
As a SECURITY OFFICER, GS-0080-12, (TITLE 32) you will be the Wing Commander's principal advisor in all law enforcement and physical security matters. Serve as the Wing AT/FP Officer. Required to direct installation measures needed to protect against internal and external threats of terrorism.
Plan, schedule, control, and direct all unit functions. Perform a variety of DFC and supervisory functions to include assigning work to subordinates (dual and non-dual status, Active Guard Reserve (AGR), and traditional drill status members) by selective criteria such as the difficulty of the assignment, capabilities of the employee, or preset workload assigned to each employee. Serve as the highest technical authority in regard to security for the wing.
Perform other duties as assigned.

- This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guard, required prior to the effective date of placement.
- Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform.
- Acceptance of an excepted service position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment.
- Applicants who are not currently a member of the National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership and employment in the National Guard in the military grade listed in this announcement.
- Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
- Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation.
- May be required to successfully complete a probationary period.
- Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.
- The incumbent of this position description must have at a minimum, a completed Top-Secret clearance.
- Position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. An individual convicted of a qualifying crime of domestic violence may not perform the duties of this position.
- May occasionally be directed to work other than normal duty hours.
- This position may be designated mission essential based on local conditions. Mission essential personnel report for duty at normal times when the unit is closed or delayed reporting and remain on duty during phased or early release.
- May require travel in military and/or commercial aircraft to perform temporary duty assignments.
- The work may require the incumbent to drive a motor vehicle; if so, an appropriate valid driver’s license is mandatory.
- Maintains weapons qualifications commensurate with a 31PX series Air Force Specialty Code.
- The position is designated for drug testing.
- Applicant must complete a Baseline Pre-Placement Screening for General Schedule positions within 30 days of appointment.
- Acceptance of a Federal position may terminate Tricare Reserve Select eligibility.
Qualifications
Military Grades: O-1 through O-4
GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Must have experience, education or training in collecting and analyzing data effectively, efficiently, and accurately. Able to apply procedures and directives by reading and interpreting technical material; ability to communicate clearly and effectively orally and in writing, using presentation and report formats. Demonstrated ability to follow directions, to read, understand, and retain a variety of instructions, regulations, and procedures; learned ability to assess the surrounding environment to recognize immediate risk levels. Must have the education and validated understanding of the basic principles and concepts of the occupational series and grade for one of the seven organizational program disciplines and its applicable Security Series career.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Must have 36 months experience or 1 year at the next lower-level experience in managing the function of the work to be performed. Experience which includes leading, directing and assigning work of personnel; with expert knowledge and premier technical authority responsible for the development, implementation, and management of the law enforcement, physical security, installation security, and AT/FP programs, policies, procedures, and equipment. Paramount knowledge of AF security concepts, principles, and practices to review, independently analyze, and resolve complex security problems; comprehensive knowledge of all security and law enforcement programs AF-wide.
