About the Position: Serves as team leader for the cartographic unit of the Survey Section. Responsible to the supervisor for assuring that the assigned tasks are carried out by leading, organizing and coordinating various supportive duties and responsibilities. Follows accepted cartographic practices and applies the practical knowledge of the processes, practices, methods, and techniques involved in constructing new or revised maps, charts, and related cartographic products.

Duties

Serve as team leader for the cartographic unit of the Survey Section. Assure that the assigned cartographic tasks are carried out by leading, organizing and coordinating various supportive duties and responsibilities Lead, coordinate and work with employees to collect, edit, map and present survey data. Coordinate the workload among employees and assures that the work assignments are executed and meets the established requirements and timelines. Compile, edit and review complex map and textual terrain intelligence products. Instruct subordinates in specific tasks and job techniques relating to the use of CADD, dredge volume computations, dredge area computations, datum conversions, etc. Review all topographic, hydrographic and cadastral data, surveys and maps submitted by field survey crews and contractors to support multi-million dollar decisions on construction payments or project planning decisions. Accept or reject survey data presented for subsequent mapping or charting. Coordinate with project engineers and managers to determine the best application of survey principles and procedures for data collection and presentation. Review and make mathematical computations, as required, for all surveying projects assigned to the New York District.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the incumbent to obtain and maintain a valid state issued driver's license.
  • This position requires the incumbent to travel away from the official duty station for approximately 10% of the time on an annual basis.
  • This position requires pre-employment financial disclosure and annually thereafter in accordance with DoD Directive 5500-7-R.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
