This position is located in the Quality Services Branch under the Division of Quality Management at the Kayenta Service Unit (KSU), Kayenta, Arizona. This position serves as an Infection Control Specialist. The incumbent manages and implements the Infection Control Program (ICP), provides clinical leadership, develop plans for the service and provides a primary interface between the organizational managers, and clinicians.
Duties

Provides leadership in the ongoing review and development of clinical practice in compliance to Infection Control regulations and by functioning as an expert clinician and role model in the clinical setting.
Directs a comprehensive Hospital-wide Infection Control Program to prevent, identify, and to control infections acquired in the hospital or brought into the hospital from the community.
Develops new policies and procedures utilizing current literature and in compliance with federal, state and other regulatory standards.
Develops and implement plan of action to introduce new/revise policies and procedures, to all staff.
Monitors and documents surveillance/performance improvement activities to ensure compliance with the standards by making regular scheduled and impromptu rounds in addition to the tracer rounds to assure staff is up-to-date and compliant with infection prevention issues, observe aseptic techniques/standard precautions, checks quality control programs in each area and assures engineering control are in place and in working order.
Analyzes data from surveillance reports for deviation from expected baseline and initiates appropriate action when measures are required to protect patients, employee or other staff.
Assures that infection surveillance program plans are iii compliance with TJC, OSHA, CDC, CMS, IHS, and KSU standards, policies and procedures.
Plans, implements and evaluates an infection control orientation program for all new employees.
Qualifications

BASIC REQUIREMENT(S):
Education
A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education(external link), Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs(external link), Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education(external link), or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education(external link) at the time the degree was obtained.
Degree from Foreign Nursing School:
Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools (external link) is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools.
Licensure
For all grade levels and positions, applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination(external link). In addition, they must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks:
GS-12 - Examples of specialized experience: Develop policies and procedures for infection control. employee health, and patient safety and ensure compliance with accreditation requirements. Understand and present health and educational resources. Manage employee health records, collect data and prepare reports for Quality Improvement and Clinical Committees.
Time In Grade
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
