This position is located within the Finance Group, which is responsible for the overall financial management, monitoring, and reporting, for all 17 sections of the Criminal Division. Finance Group falls under the Office of Administration within the Department of Justice's Criminal Division.
Duties
As a Financial Technician, you will:
Provide support and assistance with development of quarterly financial and billing reports for numerous programs using relevant finance and accounting operations systems;
Enter, adjust, and retrieve data, run daily and ad hoc reports, perform reconciliations, prepare invoices for payment, and provide tracking data on spreadsheets;
Employ variance analysis to interpret financial reports; and
Provide support and assistance in reviewing and coordinating budget executions including processing obligating and expenditure documents.

Qualifications
To qualify at the GS-05 level, applicants must have one of the following:
Four (4) academic years of post-high school leading to a bachelor's degree or equivalent degree; OR
One (1) year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-04 grade level. Examples of specialized experience must include duties such as: assisting in applying basic financial function support by compiling and tracking resource data from financial reports; and preparing various financial plans, documents, and reports in accordance with established procedures; OR
Combination of education and experience: equivalent combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and experience may be used to meet total experience requirements. Please note that for the GS-05, only education in excess of 60 semester hours of an undergraduate degree is creditable towards meeting the specialized experience requirement.
To qualify at the GS-06 level, applicants must have one (1) year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-05 grade level. Examples of specialized experience must include duties such as: providing financial function support by compiling and tracking resource data from financial reports; preparing various financial plans, documents, and reports in accordance with established procedures; analyzing various financial datasets; and compiling statistical and narrative updates for members of the senior staff.
To qualify at the GS-07 level, applicants must have one (1) year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-06 grade level. Examples of specialized experience must include duties such as: applying basic financial function support by compiling and tracking resource data from financial reports; preparing various financial plans, documents, and reports in accordance with established procedures; providing statistical and narrative updates for members of the senior staff; analyzing various financial datasets; and using an automated finance and accounting system to process obligations, disbursements, and inter-fund transactions.
Combination of Education and Experience - Your current education completed is credited as a percentage of the education required for the grade level and your current experience is credited as a percentage of the total experience required for the grade level. The two percentages are added and must equal 100% in order to qualify for the desired grade level.
All academic degrees and coursework must be completed at a college or university that has obtained accreditation or pre-accreditation status from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. For a list of schools that meet this criteria, see www.ed.gov.
Foreign Education: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show that the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
