Duties

As a Seized Property Specialist, at full performance level, you will perform the following duties: Performs comprehensive reviews, evaluations, surveys and other assessments pertaining to the operational functions relating to Seized Property management. Performs a variety of analytical techniques and methodologies while performing indepth qualitative and/or quantitative Seized Property program inspections. Reviews and updates Customs and Border Protection (CBP)/HSI automated systems for data completeness and accuracy. Provides technical direction on complex issues pertaining to seized property activities to CBP and HSI field personnel on operational and administrative matters.

Requirements

  • Probationary Period: This is a full-time permanent position (Career/Career-Conditional appointment). Upon appointment to this position, you may be required to serve a one-year probationary period.
  • Firearms Requirement: You will be required to carry a firearm while performing duties of this position. Maintaining firearm proficiency is mandatory.
  • This position requires the selectee to carry a firearm. Any person who has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence cannot lawfully possess a firearm or ammunition (Title 18, U.S.C. Section 022 (g)(9)).
  • Motor Vehicle Operation: You must possess a valid automobile driver's license at the time of appointment.
  • Training: Completion of five week Seized Property Specialist training at Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC), Glynco, GA is mandatory.
  • Medical Requirements: You must be physically, emotionally, and mentally able to perform the duties of the position. You will be required to complete a physical to the satisfaction of the U.S. State Department.

You qualify for the GS-11 grade level if you possess one (1) year of specialized experience at the GS-09 grade level or equivalent performing duties such as: Completing pre-operational planning for enforcement operations requiring the collection of evidence and seizure of property; Collecting, documenting, and storing evidence recovered at search warrant locations; and Conducting onsite inspections or investigations. OR Education: A Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree, three (3) full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree, or a LL.M., if related. Graduate level education must have been from an accredited college or university and must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and activities necessary to do the work. Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of successfully completed graduate level education and experience. Graduate level education must have been from an accredited college or university and must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work. You qualify for the GS-12 grade level if you possess one (1) year of specialized experience at the GS-11 grade level or equivalent performing duties such as: Developing and providing guidance, training and feedback to HSI field personnel regarding seized property; Implementing solutions involving the relationship of seized property work to broader operations; and Researching special handling requirements fr hazardous materials and any other property requiring special transportation. Firearms Requirement: You will be required to carry a firearm while performing duties of this position. Maintaining firearm proficiency is also mandatory. You must satisfactorily complete (or have previously completed) the firearms component of the Criminal Investigation Training Program at Glynco, GA. Any person who has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence cannot lawfully possess a firearm or ammunition. Work Conditions: This job requires physical strength and stamina to perform activities such as carrying heavy equipment to be used in investigative efforts. These activities require considerable physical exertion, such as running, stooping, bending, climbing, lifting, and carrying heavy objects. The environment may involve work indoors and outdoors in a variety weather conditions. You may be required to travel overnight or longer to perform duties of the job.
