This position is located in the Office of Audit within the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration (TIGTA). The purpose of this position is to serve as an Auditor in support of the assigned program area(s).
Duties
The following are the duties of this position at the GS-07. If you are selected at a lower grade level, you will have the opportunity to learn to perform these duties and will receive training to help you grow in this position.
- Assist in drafting segments of audit report findings, memoranda, and correspondence applicable to assigned audits.
- Assist in researching laws, regulations, operating instructions, and functional and program documents to acquire knowledge of the IRS activity being audited.
- Assist in the verification of reports against source accounts and records to determine data reliability and accuracy of computations.
- Obtain a working knowledge of laws, regulations, operating instructions, functional and program documents related to the IRS activity being audited.
- Prepare both paper and automated audit working papers, recording in a prescribed format the information pertinent to the audit steps being accomplished.
Qualifications
You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement.
To be qualified for this position at the GS-04 level, you must have completed 2 full academic years of post-high school study or an Associate's Degree.
The education generally must be from an accredited (or pre-accredited) college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
Education
APPLICANT MUST BE PURSUING A:
Degree in auditing; or a degree in a related field such as business administration, finance, public administration or accounting;
OR
Combination of education and experience: at least 4 years of experience in Performance Auditing, or an equivalent combination of performance auditing experience, college-level education, and training that provided professional auditing knowledge. The applicant's background must also include one of the following:
A certificate as a Certified Internal Auditor or a Certified Public Accountant, obtained through written examination; or
Completion of the requirements for a degree that included substantial course work in auditing or accounting, e.g., 15 semester hours.
The education generally must be from an accredited (or pre-accredited) college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. If you are qualifying based on foreign education, you must submit proof of creditability of education as evaluated by a credentialing agency. Refer to the
