This position works in the Resources Stewardship Division for Petersburg National Battlefield under the direction of the Superintendent, with emphasis on historic preservation, providing technical support and guidance in the completion of National Historic Preservation Act Section 106 requirements. This is a general supervisory cultural resources management position for the park. Will serves as a principal advisor and are responsible for program development and implementation.
Duties
Serves as a principal advisor in the management of natural and cultural resources and is responsible for program development and implementation.
Provides guidance on laws, executive orders, special directives, policy, guidance and precedent decisions affecting natural and cultural resources.
Provides overall professional and technical direction for natural and cultural resources program, plans for and develops recommendations for programming priorities.
or coordinates the review of projects to assure protection of natural and cultural resources and compliance with federal laws.
Identifies research needs, prepares requests for proposals and statements of work, and provides oversight for research projects.
Qualifications

To qualify for this position at the GS-12 grade level, you must possess at least one or all of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement:
EXPERIENCE: One year of full time specialized experience comparable in difficulty and responsibility to next the lower graded level of this position at the GS-12 grade level (comparable to GS-11) in the Federal government. Specialized experience is experience that equipped the applicant with particular knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to successfully perform the duties of this position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. This experience should include applying laws, regulations, policies or professional judgement in the protection of natural and cultural resources. Examples of qualifying specialized experience include duties such as reviewing project plans to ensure they comply with natural and cultural resource laws and regulation, such as the National Environmental Policy Act, National Historic Preservation Act and Archaeological Resources Protection Act; monitoring projects progress to ensure tasks are completed on time and in alignment with professional standards; and preparing a variety of written reports and documents to support natural and cultural resource program goals.
EDUCATION:
Basic Requirements for Archeologist, GS-0193-12 minimum professional qualifications for Archeologist 193 are the following:
1. Degree: that included 3 semester hours each in the following course area: History of archeology; archeology of a major geographical area such as North America or Africa; regional archeology, archeological cultures, or sites in a specific part or portion of a major geographical area; theory and methods of archeology; archeological field school; AND 6 semester hours of related course work in: geography, geology, or cultural geography; history, historiography, or historical archeology; environmental studies; scientific writing (nonfiction English composition); and/or surveying; AND archeological field school.
2. Related curriculum: degree in anthropology (with emphasis on ethnology, physical anthropology, or scientific linguistics), history, American studies, or a related discipline may be accepted as satisfying in full the educational requirements, provided the curriculum supplied academic course work sufficiently similar to the requirements in 1. (including archeological field school); OR 3. Combination of education and experience--college level education or training that provided knowledge equivalent to that described in 1 above, plus appropriate technical experience or additional education. OR Four years of archeological work experience that demonstrated a thorough knowledge of the fundamental principles and theories of professional archeology. The work experience must have included archeology field experience, which may include that gained in an archeological field school. Field experience should have included a combination of professional experience in archeological survey, excavation, laboratory analysis, and preparation of written materials. Applicants with such field experience should, after additional experience under the direction of a higher grade archeologist, be able to demonstrate the ability to be a crew chief, directing the work of others at a single location as a part of a larger archeological project.
Basic Requirements for Museum Curator, GS-1015-12 The minimum professional qualifications for Museum Curator 1015 are the following: 1. Degree: museum work; or in an applicable subject matter field; or 2. Combination of education and experience--courses equivalent to a major, as shown in 1 above, plus appropriated experience or additional education; or 3. Four years of experience that provided knowledge comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of the 4-year course of study.
Requirements for Landscape Architect, GS-0807-12 The minimum professional qualifications for Landscape Architect 0807 are the following
Degree: landscape architecture or landscape design.Note:Successful completion of a 5-year program of study of at least 160 semester hours leading to a bachelor's degree in landscape architecture in an accredited college or university is qualifying for GS-7.

Combination of education and experience -- for each year short of graduation, the applicant must have had 1 year of experience under professional leadership and guidance of such character and diversity as to be a satisfactory substitute for the required education. This experience must have included original landscape design.
Evaluation of Experience: The following kinds of experience are not acceptable as professional landscape architectural experience: routine drafting or developing of plans where original investigations or designs are not involved; laying out or executing illustrations in black-and-white or in color; nursery work involving the propagation of trees, shrubs, vines, etc.; experimental, horticultural, or landscape gardening; breeding, testing, propagation, culture, and production of plants, flowers, trees, crops, etc.; forestry work involving the management of forest resources for the continuous production of timber, water, forage, and other forest values; architectural and engineering work limited to the design of structures; work in city and community planning that relates primarily to the broad social and economic growth of cities and communities and the organization of community services and facilities.
Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

To qualify based on education, you must submit a legible copy of transcripts from an
accredited institution with your name, school name, credit hours, course level, major(s), and grade-point average or class ranking. Transcripts do not need to be official, but if you are selected for this position and you used your education to qualify, you must provide official transcripts before you begin work.

education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet qualification requirements, you must show that your education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
