This is a Motor Vehicle Operator in the Transportation Section of the Facilities and Engineering Service at the VA Medical Center Perry Point. This section is responsible for the transportation needs for the Maryland VA Health Care System to include transporting both psychiatric, geriatric and long term care veterans, both male and female.

Duties

Major duties: Alert to clearances of underpasses, bridges, trees, overhanging areas at all times. Follows orders of a dispatcher, supervisor or trip ticket indicating type of vehicle, destination, purpose of trip, equipment and/or supplies to be picked up or delivered and any additional work to be done Capable of determining by-pass routes, etc. Responsible for safety rules, regulations, traffic signs and signals Loads/unloads cargo and assists in loading/unloading passengers to assure the vehicle is not overloaded and that cargo and passengers are arranged properly and safely. Knows the height, width, length, and weights of the vehicles in order to judge overhead and side clearances. Responsible for cleaning transportation office when required or requested Must know how to pull a pre-trip inspection on all assigned vehicles. Must know safety rules and regulations and other posted rules for motor vehicles. Work Schedule: Rotating shifts Monday through Friday 5:30AM-1:30PM 6AM-2:30PM, 7:30AM-4:30PM, 11:30AM-8PM, Position Description Title/PD#: Motor Vehicle Operator/PD000000 Critical Skills Incentive (CSI): Not approved Relocation/Recruitment Incentives: Not authorized

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 11/09/2023. EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards. SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: Moderate physical effort is used in reaching, bending, turning or moving hands, arms, feet and legs to operate vehicle controls. Additional physical effort is used in loading/unloading and assisting in loading/unloading operations.
