This National Guard position is for a FLIGHT ENGINEER (INSTRUCTOR) (TITLE 32), Position Description Number D0606000 and is part of the FL AASF 1, National Guard.

Duties

As an, FLIGHT ENGINEER (INSTRUCTOR), GS-2185-10, you will serve as instructor/flight examiner providing instruction, evaluation and examination on ground and operational training flights to develop and upgrade skills of aircrew members. Applying knowledge of the full range of aircrew duties and responsibilities, methods of instruction and requirements of the program, performs standardization. currency, instrument, proficiency, tactical, emergency and special tasks evaluation flights. Ensures prescribed programs of instruction for aircrew training is adequately covered in terms of course content, coverage, and scope of material presented. Adapts instruction to proficiency level of individuals being rated. Performs the following typical tasks: Assesses newly assigned individuals' level of experience and training through review of training records and/or proficiency flight evaluation to determine proficiency and skill status. Plans and conducts aircrew training program. Prepares formal course outlines. Schedules and conducts initial, refresher and continuing training, (including ground and flight instruction, procedures training).

  • This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guard, required prior to the effective date of placement.

  • Security Clearance requirements are determined by position and/or MOS/AFSC compatibility.

  • May be required to successfully complete a probationary period.
  • Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • Must have completed the Enlisted Flight Instructor (EFIC) course certified by 1059 course completion certificate.

Qualifications

AREA OF CONSIDERATION: This position is in the Excepted Federal Civil Service "under the authority of 32 U.S.C. 709" and is open to Category 1: All permanent/indefinite (T32 and T5) technicians employed by the agency Category 3: All current military members of the Florida National Guard; and Category 4: All individuals who qualify for membership in the Florida National Guard and are willing to become T32 Dual Status technicians. First consideration will be given to Category 1. PCS: Permanent Change of Station (PCS) MAY be authorized. Authorization for payment of PCS expenses will be granted ONLY after determination is made that payment is in the best interest of the Florida National Guard. FLARNG BUS Code NG5022: This position is "included" in the bargaining unit and eligible for labor organization representation. NOTE #1: Must have completed the Enlisted Flight Instructor (EFIC) course certified by 1059 course completion certificate. Military Grades: Enlisted- E4 thru E7 GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Experience which has provided the applicant with a knowledge of aircraft weight and balance computations; aircraft performance data; aircraft records maintenance; and aircraft systems. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: GS10 Must have at least 1-year equivalent to at least next lower grade level; education, or training assisting the pilot in operating various aircraft systems, e.g. hydraulic, fuel, electrical or pressurization to assure safe operation of aircraft; experience interpreting mechanical and electrical drawings, schematics, guides and diagrams to correct malfunctions of the assigned aircraft (HH60, UH60, Ch47, UA72); experience applying and interpreting procedures and techniques as described in flight manuals and other applicable technical publications; experience performing in-flight duties to include systems monitoring and interpretation, functional check and troubleshooting of onboard computers and navigational systems, etc; experience which demonstrates ability to provide formal instruction.
