Vacancies will be filled in the following specialty areas:
DIRECTOR WESTERN COMPLIANCE
The following are the duties of this position at the full working level. If this vacancy includes more than one grade and you are selected at a lower grade level, you will have the opportunity to learn to perform these duties and receive training to help you grow in this position.
Prepares, verified, and assembles work papers, schedules and exhibits, and related documentation that reflects the presentation of facts and the analysis performed. These may include, but are not limited to, travel and entertainment, bad debt reserve, depreciation, source of income, ITC, balancing bank statements, other expense schedules, chart of account, etc. Reconciles subsidiary accounts with general ledger control accounts for receivables, payables, work-in-progress, inventory and property accounts. Also assists in the preparation of examination reports including the recomputation of tax liability. In addition, prepares and assembles work papers and exhibits in the case file.
As instructed, conducts research for the Revenue Agents/Specialty Examiners using the tax services (CCH, Prentice Hall, Tax Management, Mertens), Revenue Rulings and Procedures, precedent court cases, newspapers and business publications, as well as LEXIS, PHINET and the Internal Revenue Manual to assist the agents in the development of an issue(s).
As required, assists Revenue Agents in performing package audits by making contacts with the payroll department of taxpayers in conducting W-4 proves, tip income and unreported income projects to gather information concerning names and addresses, amounts paid and other information necessary for the successful completion of the project.
Qualifications
Federal experience is not required. The experience may have been gained in the public sector, private sector or Volunteer Service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-timework is considered on a prorated basis. You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement:
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-05 level in the Federal Service. Examples of specialized experience includes: Experience that is related to the work of this position and has provided you with the competencies required for successful job performance. Examples of experience qualifying as specialized include: preparing, receiving, reviewing, and verifying documents; processing transactions; maintaining office records; and locating and compiling data or information from files and other data sources; processing a variety of tax returns and reports; examining tax returns and supporting documents for current and prior year and amended returns; and contacting customers through correspondence or telephone to obtain information, explain liability, and encourage compliance.
