The primary purpose of this position is to serve as the Wright-Patterson AFB Sports Program Manager with primary responsibility to plan, manage, direct, and administer a wide range of sports programs with emphasis of intramural sports, varsity sports, extramural sports, Air Force sports and special events.
Duties
Plans, develops, organizes, manages, and administers a diverse and comprehensive year-round sports program constructed of intramural sports, varsity sports, extramural sports, Air Force Sports, and special events. Provides fitness and recreational opportunities for the population of Wright-Patterson AFB which include active duty, reserve, retired military, military family members, DoD civilians, and other authorized patrons.
Acts as the shift leader for facility operations and sports program management. Prepares and submits APF and NAF annual budgets in amounts necessary to support and conduct the sports program.
Maintains records, disseminates information, and provides necessary publicity to adequately promote and support the sports program.
Manages all requirements for a sports official's contracts.

- This position has been designated by the Air Force as a Testing Designated Position (TDP) under the Air Force Civilian Drug Demand Reduction Program. Employee must pass initial and periodic short notice drug testing

- Shift work and emergency overtime may be required

- Physical is required due to heavy lifting and long periods of standing/walking
- The actual work performed in this position has been reviewed and dete1mined that it does not meet any of the exemption criteria defined in 5 CFR 55 I. This position has been designated as Non-Exempt
Qualifications

BASIC REQUIREMENT OR INDIVIDUAL OCCUPATIONAL REQUIREMENT:
Undergraduate and Graduate Education: Major study -- physical education
OR
Experience
Specialized Experience (for positions above GS-5): Experience that demonstrated the ability to:
Plan, supervise, administer, or carry out a sports program that includes a variety of individual and team sports; and
Guide participants in developing the skills needed for participation in sports activities and to teach the techniques of various sports.
Examples of qualifying specialized experience include:
Managing or administering a sports program in a community, industrial activity, or secondary school or college.
Planning, teaching, or evaluating a physical education curriculum for secondary or higher academic levels.
Managing, umpiring, or officiating at amateur or professional athletic events, competitions, or games.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one year (52 weeks) of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-07, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience include planning, developing, organizing, or administering a sports program; maintaining records and reviewing sports official's contracts; planning, or teaching or evaluating a physical education program.

OR
EDUCATION:
master's or equivalent graduate degree
or
2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree
or
LL.B. or J.D., if related

COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: Less than the full amount of specialized experience described in the job opportunity announcement; but has at least one year of progressively higher level graduate education.

FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-07 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-09 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
Knowledge of fitness equipment's functionality, set up, adjustment, and operating procedures.
Knowledge of physical and psychological factors of individual and team sports, to include sports rules.
Skills in preparing budgets and program evaluations; managing financial and physical resources of sports program; and effectively organizing and utilizing available resources within the program framework.
Ability to train, monitor, and work with employees who have a variety of sports background.
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Ability to train patrons in large groups and/or brief groups from a wide variety of backgrounds.
Ability to adjust work operations to meet emergency, changing, or production requirements within available resources and with minimum sacrifice of quantity or quality of work.
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
