The VISN 22 Personnel Security Unit is seeking two Supervisory Security Assistants. This position performs the security-related functions in support of a Network Personnel Suitability and Credentialing Program within a Shared Services Unit, and assures that all appointees have the appropriate level of security/suitability clearance commensurate with their assignment.
Duties
The major duties and responsibilities of the GS-0086-9 Supervisory Security Assistant include but are not limited to:
Responsible for supervising the day-to-day activities of the Personnel Security Program. Implements the policies and procedures for the Personnel Security Program. Ensures that the program meets all legal and mandatory requirements and that all agency regulatory requirements are followed.
The work of this position centers on examining activities for assigned positions (GS-7 & below) and ensuring they are supporting assigned Personnel Security Specialist with collecting appropriate background information, tracking and reviewing data, completion of reports, maintaining databases and processing follow-up actions on various security related matters and assisting with suitability adjudications.
Assist Security Assistants with the processes of initiating, reviewing, and approving background cases for release to the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) in compliance with policies relating to completion of suitability investigations for Federal employees and others requiring background investigations for non-sensitive and public trust positions.
Works with the Consolidated Classification Unit (CCU) to ensure that all position descriptions have appropriate risk level as determined by Position Designation Tool(PDT). Works with Staffing and Processing and Records Section to ensure each position has the appropriate risk and sensitivity level designated in HR SMART. Performs audits and spot checks the Employee's Official Personnel Folders (eOPF's) to review for compliance with personnel security related documents. May be assigned to mission specific meetings where the incumbent provides information as a subject matter expert.
Assist Security Assistants ensuring security activities are in accordance with ADP security policies. Keeps security information confidential and assures compliance with the requirements of safeguarding personal and other sensitive data pursuant to the Computer Security Act of 1997, and the Privacy Act of 197 4. Develops and implements procedures and practices to cover multiple security objectives.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 11/03/2023.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-09 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-07. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment.

Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade (GS-7) in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: performing security-related functions in support of a Personnel Suitability and Credentialing Program; assuring that all employees have the appropriate level of security/suitability clearance commensurate with their assignment; and responsibility for an organization's identity verification program that issues secure and reliable identity credentials to all employees, contractors, affiliates, and volunteers.

Physical Requirements: The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee sits comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying of light items such as papers, small boxes, or books.
