The position is in the Department of Veteran Affairs (VA), Veterans Health Administration (VHA), Mid-Atlantic Health Care Network (VISN 6), in VA Medical Center (VAMC) Salem, Virginia, under the Facilities Management Service, Maintenance & Operations section, Grounds and Transportation Departments.
Duties
Duties include but are not limited to:
Operate boom lift, scissor lift and forklifts (less than 1 0,00Olb lifting load capacity indoors and outdoors to load and unload heavy materials and equipment.)
Operate vehicles equipped with driving controls such as gear shift, brake pedal, accelerator, clutch, and levers supplying power to the driving wheels.
Operate a variety of snow removal equipment such as tractors with sweeper and plow attachments, heavy duty trucks with snowplows, walk behind snowplows, walk behind spreaders, and backpack sprayers.
Operates special purpose equipment with power take off switches, levers, and pedals, etc. to control the equipment.
Operates a skid steer track loader and combination backhoe and front end loader to perform required excavating, trenching, backfilling, grading, snow removal and other work as needed or in the absence of the Heavy Equipment Operator.
Operates a wide variety of small engine labor intense equipment such as weed trimmers, sidewalk edgers, push mowers, chainsaws and hedge trimmers.
Use a wide variety of labor intensive hand held tools such as rakes, shoves, sledge hammers, picks, post hole diggers, and damping bars.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 7:00AM to 3:30PM

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: The daily duties performed by incumbent requires heavy physical effort and constant bending, reaching, moving hands, arms, and legs to operate equipment. The incumbent performs nearly all work assignments outdoors, including all types of weather and temperature extremes both day and night. Will be exposed to all types of weather, including extreme hot and cold, wind, rain, snow, and ice.
