The Housekeeping Aid Supervisor positions are located in the Environmental Management Service (EMS) and are responsible for all matters pertaining to section operations.

Duties

This position involves the supervision of employees in Environmental Management Service and is accountable for three areas of responsibility: Planning -Plans day-to-day and weekly work schedules determining manpower, materials, methods, procedures, and equipment required to accomplish the objectives. -Determines employee capabilities for various jobs. -Sets priorities for various work assignments in accordance with schedules. -Arranges time studies to ensure maximum utilization of employees, materials, supplies, changes in operation and specifications to allow economical operations. -Checks to see the work meets all quality assurance standards and prescribed work procedures. -Trains employees and documents that employees receive mandatory training. -Monitors and enforces regulations, pertinent to waste management, infection control, security, patient privacy and safety. Work Direction: -Evaluates subordinate's abilities, knowledge and skills for specific tasks to be performed. -Explains work requirements, standards, methods, and procedures as necessary. -Reviews work progress, completed operations, and makes necessary changes in plans, assignments, etc., in order that work may be accomplished effectively and economically. -Coordinates work schedules with supervisor and other service personnel. -Conducts area meetings with employees -Conducts on-the-job training with employees. -Establishes and maintains positive relations with patients, veterans, and other interested groups. -Maintains adequate control of equipment in order to prevent loss or theft and assists in conducting annual inventory. -Observes employee conduct on the job and assures they understand safety procedures. Administrative: -Schedules and approves leave requests for unit. -Determines training nd recommends appropriate follow-up. -Initiates recommendations for assignment, promotion, performance awards, disciplinary action, and participates in the selection of new employees. -Makes appraisals of subordinate's work performance and gives annual performance evaluation. -Promotes subordinate participation management programs and assures observance of regulations and rules of conduct, safety, and orderliness. -Conducts in-service inspections and makes reports of findings to the Assistant Chief. -Requests supplies and equipment, makes recommendations and initiate work orders. -Makes weekly and monthly work schedules. -Submits daily assessments of areas of assignment, unscheduled leave reports, safety reports and quality control reports. -Conducts monthly area meeting and documents that the discussion includes safety, industrial hygiene, and items passed on from upper management. -Performs other related duties as assigned. Work Schedule: 3:00 PM to 11:30 PM. Various days of the week that may include weekends and holidays. Work schedule will be discussed at interview. Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 11/10/2023. Experience: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook, X118C, WG-3500 Housekeeping Aid Family, (www.opm.gov/qualifications/x-118c). For this position, the job element method is used to match what you, the applicant, can do against what the work calls for. Your knowledge, skills and abilities will be compared to the knowledge, skills and abilities (called job elements) needed to successfully perform the work of the position. Evidence of experience must be supported by detailed descriptions of your experience on your resume. SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. The potential eligible are then rated against the remainder of the questions. The screen-out element for this position is; Ability to supervise a unit that performs Housekeeping Aids duties. Your background must demonstrate experience performing routine Housekeeping Aide or Custodian techniques, procedures and functions, under normal supervision, and includes working cooperatively, mostly as a member of a group, but may have lead or supervised a small group of workers to complete a specific assignment or project. Performing duties such as working in the intensive care unit, patient isolation, emergency room, removing infectious waste, spot washing soiled walls, mopping floors, washing beds, cleaning bathrooms and cleaning equipment for the purpose of cleanliness, storage, and inventory. HOW YOU WILL BE EVALUATED: You will be rated on the following job elements as part of the assessment questionnaire for this position. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Physical Requirements: Continuous standing, bending, stooping, working, climbing ladders, and heavy pushing when removing trash, soiled linen, mopping, wall washing, cleaning vents, light fixtures, etc. Frequently lifts or moves objects up to 50 pounds. Visual acuity must be sufficient to see dust, dirt, and cobwebs. Working Conditions: Work is usually performed in a well-lighted, well-heated building with generally favorable working conditions but, at times, subjected to disagreeable odors, infectious materials, and other environmental conditions prevailing in a medical and surgical hospital. Incumbent must be alert to safety hazards, as well as observing and practicing safe procedures and universal precautions, when working with and around potentially contaminated areas.
