About the Position: Serves as recognized expert in the specific program areas of Geospatial Information Systems (GIS), independently plans, coordinates, and carries out analytical and interpretive assignments of both Military and Civil Works programs IAW program policies. Position will be filled by temporary promotion not to exceed 2 years but may be extended up to a maximum of 5 years. May be made permanent without further competition.

Duties

Develop geo-referenced digital databases for further use as graphic thematic displays and GIS statistical analysis. Apply professional judgment, technical skills and knowledge in the analysis of GIS information. Coordinate with Regulatory staff, engineers, planners, and other professionals to identify and develop GIS applications and to promote the technology. Develop and train others in using procedures for geospatial data management and interchange. Use computer software to maintain and update spatial information, such as, as-built drawings and outdated maps, avoiding delays in processing map revisions, inaccurate data records and summaries. Coordinate and develop computer application software, routines, and macros to aid in data collection, editing, manipulating and generating of interim and final digital data and GIS product. Advance the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers regulatory program through improvements of GIS tools.

Basic Requirement for Geographer: Degree: geography; or related physical or social science such as geology, meteorology, economics, statistics, sociology, anthropology, political science, history, cartography, computer science, urban studies, or planning that included at least 24 semester hours in geography or related fields. OR Combination of education and experience: courses equivalent to a major in geography, or a related field that included at least 24 semester hours in geography or related fields, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes planning, researching, and implementing the full scope of investigative geography projects; applying geographic concepts, approaches, and a broad understanding of geographic relationships to a variety of projects; and provide scientific, analytical, functional and technical expertise to execute regulatory plans utilizing Geographic Information Systems (GIS). This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11). You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: GeographyOral CommunicationProblem SolvingProject Management Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-11).

Education
